Music dreams?

The only one I remember is at least 20 years old. I was on stage with Eric Clapton, and we were slaying it. I swear to God, that we were playing all original music. I remember waking up, and the music just fell out of my brain, as I was trying so hard to retain it. Dreams be weird!

I had quit playing almost completely for many years as I went to college and started my career, and then one night I had a dream that I was backstage with Rush and Geddy was showing me how to fake my way through a Rush song that didn't make the cut for Moving Pictures. He was going to sing and play keys and wanted me to sit in on bass. I told him I didn't think I could do it, and he said, "Don't worry, I'll walk you through it, you can do it." The scene looked oddly like the cover art for Exit Stage Left, of course.

Not long after that I started playing again and don't plan on stopping until the sun quits coming up every morning.

I occasionally dream a fantastic and artistically meritorious groove/progression. Once in a while a melody. These are great in a way I have not been able to achieve awake. I know it's not my imagination or just my dream perspective because I get so excited I wake up and still think it's relly good. I was able to remember one from two days ago for a little while. I'm going to have to immediately record some humming or notes or something to be able to know what's really up with this.

I actually have a recurring dream. I am on tour with a band and we have a stop in Raleigh at the amphitheater (the closest major venue to where I live and a place where I have seen dozens of concerts). Instead of doing one show, we do two. The first night is a standard issue band show (Friday night). The second show (Saturday night) is called a "Family Reunion" show and all of the guys who have played in bands with me over thirty some odd years get up and play with us. It is broadcast on several local TV stations.
Wow that is a really cool the recurring dream! Mine are never that much fun...

Only one. I dreamed i was playing bass for guns n roses and they were actually good.
FTFY ;)

(Sorry, couldn't help mice elf.)

I had one a few years ago that has stuck with me since.

In color. I always dream in color. The actual dream happened in real time, but all the attendant details and backstory rang clear as a bell. The whole thing only really lasts for about a minute but it was completely vivid and felt real...

Road gig in a strange town. Muni building, like a community center or VFW hall or some such. We had set up in the afternoon, so there was no stress or worry whatsoever about the show. Some sort of wedding party/special event with cheap, colored lights for effect on the stage/bandstand.

We're in the last seconds tuning up before the hit when I realize, to my horror (?), I'M NOT WEARING THE PROPER JACKET. (***?!) No time to go out to the bus to change clothes and then the guitar player launches into the intro to "Johnny B. Goode" and, (Ok... here's the weird part) Roseanne Barr, (circa her tv show, not now), starts LOUDLY berating me from the audience. "Hey, LOSER!- What's the matter with you?", "Can't you dress yourself?", "Are you just stupid?", etc., ad nauseum.

You tell me and we'll both know.

I've had two that i can think of right now.
The first:
I was at the property my parents used to own, where i grew up. Lovely, big 5 acre wooded country area.
So it's night time and theres some big concert/ festival going on in the back yard. so i go back there and i know that I'm supposed to be playing with the band, i go on stage, and my Tele bass is ready to go, waiting in a stand so i grab it and strap it on. I realize that it's Bob Marley performing. Rita, and the rest of the i-three are singing the female back up parts, of course. i'm playing along and kinda singing along.
Second one: i've actually had this dream a few times with slight differences each time. I come into this big warehouse, and I'm supposed to be helping to design some new basses. There's already some for me to check out, and they all look like weapons from Starwars, stormtrooper rifles and vibro-pikes from like, Jaba's goons..

Sometimes I dream that I'm browsing magic record stores filled with long lost classics of immense importance to me (that don't actually exist). Sometimes I dream that I'm browsing oddly shaped music stores testing out very small and wacky bass range fretted absurdities (weirdest GAS pains ever). But the one that's never repeated, and easily the best/worst:

I'm wandering the streets of an unknown city on the way to a gig with two friends, but we've never written anything together, just random jams for years. I keep begging them for just a couple of minutes to talk about even a bare outline for our set, but they're not worried and I'm losing it. We get to the venue and perch backstage waiting for The Velvet Underground to finish their set, because naturally they're opening for us. Why not? We're just the band that doesn't practice, write, or have a name, but we're headlining a giant outdoor event at the top of a grand half circle of stone stairs, flanked by giant marble columns, and we're just going to wing it with nothing. I woke up just after plugging in, and I still wish I could have seen/heard what came next, in spite of the terror.

I dream a lot that I am performing (a show or just a jam session) and I am way more proficient on whatever instrument I happen to be playing in the dream. It's usually guitar, bass, or drums in order of frequency, even though I rarely play guitar or drums these days.

I have frequent music dreams, but almost all of them are situations like the scene in Spinal Tap where the band cannot navigate the labyrinth of back stage passageways and find its way to the stage. So most of my dreams never get to the point of actually starting a performance.
