I've got a 1997 which looks exactly the same! At first I didn't really like the colour combo, and was looking at other pgs etc but I've come to love it. Something about the matte/satin black on polished blackGot my first ever Music Man bass today - a used 2011 StingRay 4

Got the clear PG from WD. The neck cut out is so tight that it makes air pockets under the pickguard. Doesn't look good. But I like the look. So I need to file one of the edges on the neck cutout so it fits flat on the bass.
It grinds my gears when this stuff happens. Just do it right. It's about an 1/8" bigger all around than the original too....ugh! The black guard is back on for now.
On the positive side. New strings fixed the weak G issue I had so I'm good and the bass is a keeper!
Beautiful! Is that a Classic with a 3 band eq? One of my local shops sold a used 4 string recently in the same color, and it was a classic with a 3band eq. I thought it had some aftermarket parts. I was mistaken, apparently!I'm back in!! Sold my last Ray about a year ago (and reliquished my number too) and i'm back in with this PDN!!!

Per 5sg's suggestion that I repost in the new thread:
My '97 Honeyburst - bought as a regular gig replacement for my '78. The S FLA salt air was taking a toll on the metal bits:

Best of all - my 1978 'B00****' bass. Bought it in '84 from a Mom&Pop shop outside of Omaha (Bellevue?) while on the road - traded a Kramer DMZ1000 and $200 for it. My only bass for 20+ years:

As to the question about the wood pickguard - it was on there when I got it, the only non original piece. Even the mutes are original (and hard as diamonds, at this point).
Is that a fretted EUB on the right (to go with your fretless BG......I'd like to join the Stingray Club. I have a 1999 Stingray 5 Fretless Serial # E08740 signed by Tony Levin.
Here's a pic;

Cheers,

No, it's a fretless Zeta Crossover 4 string (looking for a 5). I have masking tape on the fretboard, as I'm useless at intonation.Is that a fretted EUB on the right (to go with your fretless BG......)
