A little off topic, but put some chromes on my Stingray Classic...wow very nice. Can't put this and my Bongo down... They have both become my go to basses...and that's coming from a guy that is passionate about my Rickenbackers...

Was always a Benjamin Orr fan and had a chance to meet him a few times. Loved the stingray sound he had live (much better than some of the studio stuff where I thought he got mixed out a bit too often.) The silver color was tough to find but I finally hit pay-dirt after a year's search
I have an old set of Chromes I put on my Stingray (they used to be on my old 4005WB) and they really make this bass sing. With whatever rounds that were on it when I bought it was way to zingy for my tastes.

Thank you. It has turned out that way! Didn't see this coming to tell you the truth. It's not often I own three of anything. Family pic will be soon as soon as I get the DD1 looking all pretty.
You never see a Stingray barb coming at you, but when it hits it's undeniable. Herb, try out some DR Sunbeams on the 5'er too. Love them on my SR5.
I bet they do. It's funny, DR Hi Beams were my string of choice on everything for probably the past 10 years. Tried the Lo Riders and Sunbeams but kept coming back to the Hi Beams. They were particularly nice on mt Lakland DJ5's. But, my last not so good experience with them on a Spector ReBop left me very cold. I had never used the Ernie Ball Slinkys on a bass until my SR5HS and have been impressed so far. And, with so many folks sticking with a string that came as a stock item said something very positive. I have ready great things about the Cobalts so I have a set ready to go on this one. But perhaps someday I'll get the DR bug again.
I can see by the pics of the new sr5 I have coming that it's not wearing it's factory strings. The strings on it appear to be round wound although it's hard to say for sure. They have dark blue silk on the headstock end and the B string is tapered as it goes over the bridge saddle. I'll check them out, especially the tapered B but I'll have a new set of pro steels to put on it just in case.
Here is a shameless Stingray porn post. My 20th Anniversary with my Ampeg Heritage B15 Prototype and my 2008 Sequoia Gold Double H. The latter is up for sale with a link in my signature. Both are stellar basses and my personal favorites of the Stingrays.
Please talk me out of this! I am totally in love with my SR 4H, but am being pressured to trade it in for an SR5. I have never felt the need for five strings, but my current band says my four isn't deep enough. I really can't afford another SR, but could maybe swing it...
If you love that 4 H you will regret selling it some day in the future.
Play in drop D and see if they warm up to that approach.
I've been GAS' ing for another roasted neck SR4 (a plus if it's neptune blue), the last one I had on radar slipped through my fingers , if anyone has a lead on one let me know 
I play with the G string all the time (yeah, yeah, yeah), so not an option.
I'm not sure it'll be enough, but I suppose I could give it a try.
