here's how i did the 2009 neck maintenance when i noticed that i was playing on or near the bare wood the last few days

800 grit sand paper - 2 very light sandings - removed nicotine, beer, sweat, old wax, and perhaps some tru oil
yellow tack rag - wipe surface
birchwood casey tru oil - one light coat let sit for 5 min wipe off - cheap cotton t shirt rags from do it center
waited about 30 minutes
birchwood casey wax - 3 polishes - blue paper towels from autozone

this seemed to work fine, other folks have suggested much more time consuming methods, but i have cats and dogs
and i can't have the bass sitting around for 2 weeks letting things cure

if this seems wrong or ill advised, let me know

IIIrd Ray in da house. It's a keeper. Wonder to know how deep the strings, in your Classics, sit in the nut files. It's the second Classic I own and both had a lot of "nut" over the strings. The nut is cut perfectly, zero issues...the strings are only "drowned" in the nut

A pair of Stingray Classics. Natural and black with a birdseye maple neck and board and white and tort with a flame maple neck and rosewood board. I like the 2-band EQ and alnico pickups - both are thick and fat!

Is this sufficient to let me join the club? I've had a couple SBMMs and I've played a ton of EBMM Stingrays, essentially every time I see one in a store, I am drawn to it and pick it up. For some reason I was drawn to this one. It's passive, has a Sweetwater exclusive color - scoville red - and weighs in at just a hair over 8 pounds. The only thing I don't like is the case; it's about 5 inches taller than it needs to be (but I understand Mono uses the same case profile for the Bongo and it fills it completely). And if the case is my only gripe, this thing is a killer keeper.

That's really nice looking, I love that color.

What are the controls on it? Guessing volume passive tone, and ... ?

It's got the same controls as the passive Tim Commerford model, push/push volume (passive boost somehow), coil config (parallel/single coil/series), and passive tone. I opened it up to see how it all worked and it's all on some proprietary circuit board, the boost circuit, coil select (which I understand the theory behind it because I had an L2000 that I modded), and even the tone cap. It's nice because it's all on a board, but sucks because I can't figure it out lol.

I love that color, I've been intrigued by the passive Stingrays.

My understanding is that it isn't a boost, it's actually a volume cut in the standard position. The "boost" just removes the volume cut.

That was my guess. Passive electronics can only subtract. It subtly changes the tone as well so I'm thinking it either adds or takes away some sort of passive filter.

I love my 2006 Stingray. I also have a 2025 Stingray Special, but it was really for my wife, and I am afraid to play it now that she has passed. They are great instruments. I am trying to decide between keeping three or four mid range basses or trade them in for another stingray, maybe an hh.

Sorry about your Wife brother. I'm sure that's a constant challenge. One thought, and it's probably been considered already, but perhaps play her Stingray as a tribute to her as I would imagine she'd want it to be played and for you to not only enjoy it but to be a good steward.

Thank you much. It has only been 8 months, but I am sure I will play it eventually. She was doing so well, and right before she went into the hospital for the last time, I got her the stingray and an epiphone mij elitist casino. It is just hard to even pick them up. She barely got to play them either.
