I'm continually amazed by how few people know him. I've been singing his praises wherever and whenever anybody will listen for the better part of two years and I still only have a few hardcore music friends who are the least bit familiar with his music, even though everybody seems to like it if I just happen to play it. :confused:

I played the video. Very cool.

Don't know if you are turned on to Don Ellis the Trumpet player band leader, But, You might want to check out
" The Don Ellis Orchestra" Columbia records. Mid 70's.

Don had a big band the band played in 13/4, 11/4, and 33/8.

Live at the Filmore is a great place to start.

He had Honor build him a trumpet that plays 1/4 tones.
He ran it through a ring modulator, etc for effects.

He did the music from the movie " The French Connection"

Amazing music, nothing like it on this earth. Very cool.

Somebody right here on talkbass brought him to my attention probably about 6-7 years ago. There was a discussion about Edgar Meyer and somebody said there was this French bassist who could eat Edgar's lunch in the blink of an eye. That caught my attention and I went to investigate. Before I knew it I had 2-3 albums of his or with him on it. FWIW, I believe Renaud performed at the ISB convention two years ago so I would imagine that more folks are learning of him.

first time I heard them on the radio I drove off the road and listened to the whole tune - went right to the nearest music store and got Under The Table And Dreaming and didn't stop listening to it for a month!

When I was in college a buddy dragged me to this show I totally didn't want to go to . . . it was ARU at Mama Kin's and it was the most fantastic live show I ever saw!! It changed me so much, musically.

Frank Solari, a guitarrist from Brazil, is freakin awesome. His brother Roger, on bass, is also great. But the drummer, Kiko Freitas, is who really drops my jaw to the floor. Check this one out, although that is Andre Gomes on bass...
