Music tips for me, please.

I like Electronica/Minimalist music for relaxing, road trips & flights. If I can concentrate, the slow changing pace of the music let's me think & imagine with ease. I recommend Scott Petito's SBass Music, available on iTunes. It's composed with meditation in mind but, I find the multiple tracks, sustained notes & FX appealing.

I also like the Podcasts posted to the Indiefeed sites. They have six music categories. You're bound to hear something that tickles your creative zones & it changes nearly as fast as the Onion.

You do know about The Onion Radio News Podcasts, right? I tend to download the short, 1 minute podcasts, put them into a playlist & let them run. There is a link in the iTunes podcast section. Judicious use of the pause button will allow the side stitches, induced by laughter, to relax between podcasts.

Hi Justin,

This is certainly a tangent from your request, but Kim Deal's playing on The Pixies breakout "Doolittle" is, to me, just a stunning example of creative and melodic, zero-chops playing. Always reminds me of McCartney in terms of how much of the core composition is ultimately carried - stolen even - by the bass. Her playing on that record made me want to play bass.

Hey Justin,

I know you've checked out Steve Lawson already, but I seriously can't emphasise what an amazing album 'Behind Every Word' is. A profound quality of composition (rather than, hey look what I can do with a bass) and you're right, he really does speak through his music.

Seth Horan is a singer songwriter who so happens to use a bass instead of a guitar to support his voice - my favourite CD is the '[Invalid or Expired Link Removed]' EP, which is stripped right down to just the vocals/bass, but you really can't go wrong with any of his stuff. His latest CD 'Clang & Chime' has a lot more instrumentation on it but really, it's all about the songs.

This is so so true. What perfection. Couldn't imagine that record any other way. She's a hero. Saw her on recent tours too, and she bloody killed it. In fact, I saw The Pixies co-headlining a festival in Sydney a couple of years back and almost cried. The band were throwing out so much magic.

Hey people, you should check this out!

Scott, keep me posted. I really like SBass Music. It is like a night sky on the ocean or auditory incense; calming, relaxing & peaceful. I especially like to listen on long airplane rides. I don't know how you managed to play such slow harmonic tempos & multi-track. That must take a terrific amount of concentration. Applause, Applause, Applause.

Let me know when the next disk is available. Feel free to PM. Or better yet, post an unabashed promotion.

Sorry if my reviving this thread is untimely but I just discovered the link below to the most accomplished solo bass performance I have ever seen/heard. The music produced by it is even quite good, I think--the even more important accomplishment, of course. Fascinating to me is how much of his technique seems to have been adapted from bass guitar. He must play the hell out of one of those now and then too.
