Musical Confessions

Burton? Trujillo? No clue who those guys are. I know nothing of Metal.

Jaco is overrated, to the loss of many other fine original players of the 70's (He's bigger dead, in other words)

Bruce Springsteen bores and pains me. Living in the NY metro area can be difficult.

Counting Crows (IMO) falls into the same category as Hootie & the Blowfish, Gin Blossoms, Spin Doctors, and a bunch of others - great bands that got too hot too fast. I still love them, but I'm so sick of a few of their songs I'd rather pull a Van Gogh than sit through "Hold My Hand" or "Two Princes" one more time.

I agree, and being a huge Spin Doctors fan, I acknowledge that they got progressively worse as time went on, although I am a huge fan of Turn It Upside Down. Also, Nice Talking To Me, their latest CD, is great. Pocket Full of Kryptonite is one of my favorite albums ever, great lyrics and musicianship.

-I love pop music.
-I hate "metal guys." Seriously, you all think you're hard, but you're one step away from a D&D tribute band.
-The music industry doesn't suck now. It's just gotten much better at it's job.
-There was horrible music to come out of the sixties, seventies, eighties, and nineties too. We've just been able to filter a lot of it out through the years.
-I'm nowhere near as good of a player as I should be, because I'm lazy.

But as much as I can see & hear Jaco's genius...love the playing & can appreciate the talent, I don't dig the music AT ALL.

Yeah, I've been trying alot of times to get into his stuff but I just can't. I think its plain bad. Not the playing but the songs themselves.

Iron Maiden is very much overrated. Their most despised album is the only one I think is worth the money ("the x factor").

Guns n Roses best album is "use your illusion II".

Risk (megadeth), the burning red (machine head), load and reload (metallica) are very much underrated.

The Rolling Stones are overrated. There is not alot of stuff by them I can appreciate especially not the popular song.

Confessions:

-I am moved by Portrait of Tracy, and I like jazz fusion
-I love Victor Wooten's solos, especially Norwegian Wood
-Cliff Burton was my biggest influence as a young bassist. I think he was great for Metallica, and I'm pretty sure he had a major influence in the writing of the songs. That said, I will admit he's definitely overrated.

C'mon dude, I play metal and its nothin like that, at least the shows are fun to be at not boring.(even though I just quit my metal band cuz im not so much into playing metal anymore)

Hey, man, I've been around the metal scene long enough to know what it's like. Every time I gig, it's with metal bands, hardcore bands, every version of hard rock you can imagine. With out a doubt, metal guys are the dorkiest ones with the most stuck up attitudes.

Your post even exudes a little of the metal arrogance , whether you realize it or not. your shows are "fun to be at not boring" implies that other shows are, by their nature, boring. See what I mean?

It's okay to be a dork. Come to terms with it. I have, and I'm happier for it. Just don't act like it makes you a badass.

(side note: I dig a lot of metal! I just don't like the attitude.)

I love the production on St. Anger.

There, I said it! I've had to sit through thousands, maybe millions of posts and reviews and conversations bemoaning the steel drum sounds, the repetitive songs, the fact that James can't sign, the way it seemed to be following the trends... I love it. It's so raw, but not in that Kill 'Em All way.
As far as I see it, this is Metallica's stoner album, and I love it.

-Jerry Garcia's folk work in the late 80s and 90s was better than anything he had done since Workingman's Dead, he was also the greatest folk musician in that time frame.
-Mad respect for Wooten but I can't stand his playing.
-Bob Dylan wrote some great music but he is way overrated
-Rolling Stones suck.
-Oteil is the Greatest player alive.
-Gov't Mule has been terrible since the year after Woody's death.
-Dave Matthews is a hack.
-Gram Parsons recorded some of the greatest Country Music of all time
-THE NEW BATTLESTAR GALACTICA IS THE GREATEST SHOW IN THE HISTORY OF THE UNIVERSE!!! (Oh wait that's not musical)

I think I'm done. Sorry for all the blasphemy...
