Is it our plight as artists to have terrible relationships? Date women who are inevitably on meds, have emotional issues, can't function socially?

I've never actually fallen for a girl that doesn't have something like that. I'm beginning to think my love for artsy brunettes just means I'm forever resigned to drama, inconsistency, daddy issues...

Am I the only one? Ladies? Are we just storing our bones in dirt and need to be shown the light?

I hate generalizations too... because there's always a counter argument. But I actually think this holds water. Don't expressive people need some sort of... inspiration, catalyst... If you're looking for that in your sig-o's you're bound to also have to deal with the inevitable downsides. I personally can't seem to be attracted to the ones that are good for me. The straight-laced day jobbers with a degree and a limited admiration for music, literature, etc. just don't do it for me. They'd be GREAT... but I just keep going for the dysfunction. Wondering if I'm alone in this one or, maybe if there's a happy medium.

I’ve had more then my share of angst ridden, self-destructive, emotionally needy women, one of which is my ex-wife. To say that she is evil would be an understatement. Then again, I’m sure that she says the same about me.

My last girlfriend was a laundry list of OCD behavior, and I’m really surprised that I stayed with her as long as I did.

Current girlfriend is fantastic, and I hope she stays that way.

I figured Ive said enough wonderful things in this forum about her already that for me to list the ways in which my woman is awesome was all but unnecessary (read redundant). ;)

But in case some of you missed that: my fiancee is totally awesome.

There is, actually, a happy medium. Its not at all impossible to find the kind of girl you are looking for that doesnt come with her own collection Louis Vuitton baggage.

Not all artists need torment and dysfunction in their lives for inspiration. Though, take note, most every person will have their flaws as no one on this Earth is ideally perfect. But, it is possible to find an artistic woman without a degree, who is into really good music, art, and literature, has a fulfilling job teaching music to kids, who is honest, respectful, fun, intelligent, and beautiful to boot.


*Edit - her name is Keighley, and she's mine! You might be out of luck.

Well, we've been together over a year and a half. In that time we've had about as many fights as my ex-wife and I had in a week. It helps that she's also my best friend and that we're both strong individuals whose lives are not defined by each other. I'll be sure to update you in two years when everything is as peachy keen as it is now.
