I noticed once during a small club concert, that the female vocalist wore white - she was perfectly visible in stage light and seemed to be cool and at the front, while all other musicians wore black and seemed to disappear in the background.

Musicians on stage wearing black clothes...

Used to wear colors but went black-Ts early on, after a couple of Florida load-ins. Still always wear a black T of some sort, and carry a hat for those bad-hair load-outs.
As a heavy metal/punk dude entering his 50th year on the planet, I am so sick of black clothing. ANYTHING but all black. Regardless of genre, the all-black stage uniform is so boring. Too many people assume that a splash of color is going to make them look bad somehow. Instead, we have 10,000 bands looking like a bunch of bikers or waiters.
This band is fronted by 4 lovely ladies, so the gents (bass, drums, guitar) wear black to showcase the women.

I got CRAZY and went with grey. 
All black with a bright colored tie is our stage uniform. Sometimes short sleeves, sometimes long sleeves, and at times a black hat if you feel like it. Don't exactly know why, but it seems to be the standard for band members and sound people in my area.

My son has business shirts that are fluorescent chartreuse (yellow&lime green) I wore one one night and got scolded because I was blinding bar patrons

i like black stage-wear for lots of reasons (already mentioned) but i've worn colorful stuff plenty of times (mostly pop/rock-type gigs). doing the jazz thing: lots of tuxedo events, or dark/black suits.
I always thought black was for stagehands.
Side man: wear black (or black and white)

Depends on the gig. If Im backing an artist or doing some sort of ensemble where Im not the focus, black all the way. Otherwise, do what I please
I used to wear all black... because I was told black looks good on "chunky" guys. Well....I wore that for years but now I wear black jeans, black shoes and some kind of colorful button down shirt.
