Musicians on stage wearing black clothes...

Black doesn't show sweat, for one. Under decent stage lights, jumping around, having a ball, you work one up, and most mid-tone dyed cloth will darken when wet. You may care, you may not.
I kind of like the idea of a band uniform, and black is the easiest colour to coordinate. Personally, someday I want a black Nudie Suit because I think a Goth Conway Twitty vibe would be kind of cool...
I typically wear black. The one time I didn't Our band was a headliner at the local (weekly) festival. Fun gig. The bright Idea was to wear as loud a shirt as you could find.
I went out, bought a loud Hawaiian shirt.
Gig went great. 8 months later I get a call from our drummer telling me I'm famous.. (sarc) Seems the local marketing company that puts together our towns annual tourist magazine liked a pic of me so I was the face of this weekly festival.
Completely screwed up my status in the witness protection program... I'm back in black.
I went out, bought a loud Hawaiian shirt.

lots of classical musicians like to go "all black" because the music is the center of attention, not your fashion sense.
I literally had a music professor critique a (classical) recording I did because I was wearing a 3 piece suit ( I looked fly FYI)
I am of the opinion that "whatever" goes. when you watch old videos of jaco, his bizarre hippie-vibe is part of what you see. no matter how high the art, it's still showbiz and people are still watching you when you are playing live.

Funny thing was Way back our de facto BL, the doofus Drummer was the fashion conscience one! He made it policy to wear all black, mostly shirts, but almost no one cared in the band, we were just happy to have a guideline, we were a C-list cover band.
I didnt know there was "thing" about it?!?

It’s pretty traditional to wear black on stage. As one lead singer/guitarist I play with noted black is often the color of someone acting on behalf of a higher power or organization, like a preacher or a police officer.
Also Jerry wore a black t-shirt and jeans.
