Weird coincidence... I've always worn bright colors at shows to stand out.

When I quit the band I agreed to play out the remainder of booked gigs. Subconsciously, I wore black to all 3 gigs...

As a heavy metal/punk dude entering his 50th year on the planet, I am so sick of black clothing. ANYTHING but all black. Regardless of genre, the all-black stage uniform is so boring. Too many people assume that a splash of color is going to make them look bad somehow. Instead, we have 10,000 bands looking like a bunch of bikers or waiters.

So..... black is no longer good for metal? How about for black metal?

Back in the day when I was gigging, we wore whatever.

However, the trend of wearing black seems to be a thing.

Black clothing goes a long way towards minimizing age related midriff bulge on musicians.

I don’t know how much of a trend it is however. In the classic music world, black has been de rigueur for well over a century. And it was always the norm in Metal and some schools of jazz.

I wear black mostly out of necessity, I'm fat. I'm on minimal rations currently, and one of many reasons is being able to dress somewhat fancier. Being fat sucks. Don't get fat.

Honestly, I change it up. Sometimes I wear a nice dress shirt and sometimes a T-shirt depending on the weather or venue. But, you will never see me in shorts or cut off sleeves. Just not my thing.

I’m a support kind of guy. My wife on the other hand, is a total show pony - she’ll tell you that anytime too by the way. So, I keep out of the spotlight and she shines. Black is good until someone asks for colour. I’m ok with that too but I’m no peacock.

So I've been wearing the same black Dickie's polo for years at my weekly P&W gig. Recently, a black curtain was added around the drums. This has the effect of making it seems like my head and hands are disembodied. spooky!
