My #1 charity is Riley's Hospital for Children. These people do great work and I have been personally affected by their generosity. They even take kids from Iraq/Afghanistan and places as they have the #1 children's burn unit in the world.

Both of these places do a lot of good things for kids. Please consider them.

I move that we take whatever we get for suggestions as of mid day tomorrow,
run a poll, pick the top three voted and
split the money between the top three. The poll will be open
so that the respondents are visible. We ask you to vote if
you contributed to the MRF.

That will allow Tom Bowlus to finalize this and we can all finally be done with this.

I have to assume that Healthcare in Norway is nationalized
like it is in Iceland and other Scandinavian countries. Thus
the concept of donating to them for philanthropical or
research purposes doesn't come up as taxpayer funds already
support them. However, it does limit the budgets for pure
research in medicine.

Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston is a primary beneficiary
of the Jimmy Fund, which is huge. They are at the cutting
edge of cancer research and treatment development as a
result. Good research costs a lot of money. Every little bit
helps.

I guess you can't enforce it. I think there is a poll option
to make the responses visible. You can just ask for the honor system to apply.

There never was an 'official' list made. Some givers were vocal about it and I received PM's from people who chose not
to be identified.

The other option would be to post a link in OT to a Lobby thread poll.
That would limit the poll to SM's.

Any thoughts on that?

Probably too complicated IMO.

You're doing all the work to figure this out, so you pick a charity and be done with it. No matter who ends up getting the money, someone is going to be bummed it wasn't the charity they wanted.

As far as the poll goes, where it is or who gets to participate are secondary to me.

The fact that music and arts programs in schools are under attack should be the guiding force. Let's do our small part to get some gear and instruction for our kids.........
