I don't hate the nut for no reason... the holes that are suppost to help are a cheap rason for EB to say their basses are better... the holes are claming that each string enters the nut at a diff. place inproving intonation, well each strings enters at the front of the nut and leaves at the end so, don't know what to tell you!

You need to take a better look at the nut there turbo. It does not do what you think it does. The overall effect on the intonation is pretty slight on a bass (even MM has said so), but it does function in the way they say it does.

Not really, it can put extra strain on your arm, and is damn near useless for some styles of music where its more helpful to have a planted refrence point.

Anyway, this thread ain't about technique, its about EMM basses.

Yes, now I know from personal experience. If I would have talked to a Japanese rep the answer would have been something like "this is an interesting idea."

From a pure marketing point of view such answers like his will just turn away future customers, imho.

OP is judging the bass entirely based on a couple of his personal quirks. The nut style IS an improvement in my opinion and also used by quite a few even higher quality makers than Musicman.

The pickups style is entirely his preference based on how he plays... so why did he buy it if he didn't like how it felt?

He says nothing about not liking the sound or build quality, etc.

2 minutes of proof-reading, punctuations and grammar would also help immensely. Maybe have your dad look it over when he's done playing around with the bass you hate.

Not really... just don't like inperfect bass IMO And I own a MM and hands down it is the best bass I have ever played!!!

The thumb rest is in the perfect location on EB basses that have a single MM pickup. The string tension is perfect in that very location. Why you would ever change the pickup in an EB bass is beyond me. People buy EB basses b/c of that pickup. It's the only one in the world that will give you the classic sound that is produced by an EB bass. I'm so glad I had good guidance when I was a beginning bass player.

yeah... the compensated nut is designed so that the strings actually contact the nut at different places, therefore making each string length (minutely) different. Have you ever taken the strings off your bass and actually looked at the nut slots? We're not "looking down on you", we're questioning a statement you made that seems irrational.

I'm a teen and had to work for my baby too- it's not perfect, but I love it.

That Gary Willis under-plate design is something I think MusicMan should look into, but make it detachable. Heck, even sell it as a spare part for $75 and generate more revenue in these tough times for US instrument manufacturers...

Fender supply a non raidused one with the Roscoe Beck bass. They're really cool.

When I was shopping for a new bass about 7 years ago, I contacted EBMM to inquire if a gloss finish on necks was an option, or might be in the future. I don't remember who I talked to, but the answer was basically, "you don't need a gloss-finished neck and we're not offering one, so take it or leave it".

Incidentally, I didn't buy an EBMM, not because they aren't good quality, but because they don't offer the gloss neck, other than recently, on some of their expensive limited-issue anniversary basses. And maybe also a bit because of their attitude when I talked to them...

But saying that it's bad advice is a stretch. It's like lifting weights. People do it in different ways, but there's proper technique to avoid injuries. Same thing happens with playing bass, and if you want to avoid tendinitis and carpal tunnel syndrome you should float your thumb and keep your wrist straight...
