I love that Baltic Amber, will definitely be picking one up. Malthumb, do you still have that awesome '78 Ray that I used to play? I still think about that bass.
PS, I'm celebrating one year of being GAS free with a new Sabre. Should arrive tomorrow.
I do....sorta.....my son has pretty much claimed it. Seems like whenever I want to use it I have to take it out of his bedroom.
As for your Sabre....you know the rules.
good for your son, that was hands down the BEST 4 string ray I'd ever played.
I can post a screenshot of the ups tracking number today, tomorrow I will definitely document the unboxing.
Photos attached. Happy playing to all.Years ago, i owned a 1979 Sabre with a maple neck that I obtained in a local music store. I did not fully appreciate what i had at the time, and after having the bass for some years, I traded it away for another bass. Over the years i came to regret that decision and more recently found and purchased a very similar bass. What an amazing instrument. It is in beautiful condition, plays and sounds great. The neck of this bass seems to be more like those on a Fender Jazz bass - tapered, a bit narrower at the nut, and having a less flat and wide neck. I recently learned that this neck was an option when ordering these new. The bass is great for finger style and especially funk/slap technique. It is an absolute pleasure to play this instrument, infused with the quality, "feel," and simple beauty of a "Leo" creation. His distinctive mark clearly lives on in this instrument. Truly a keeper along with a '66 Jazz Bass, a 1981 and a 1982 G&L L2000E bass, 1980 USA Fender Bullet bass, 1995 USA Fender Jazz 5-string, and a 2006 Fender Marcus Miller Jazz bass that I am fortunate to have come across.View attachment 447990 View attachment 447991 View attachment 447993 View attachment 447994 View attachment 447992 Photos attached. Beautiful! You're #9.
I saw that Rudy's Music in NY has a Natural one with a rosewood neck. Drool.

So what are you guys using for strings?......
Drooling. I really like the look. I just don't like the tone so much. Nice bass!I looked around and I don't think a club for these underrated basses exist.
