Will get some better pictures,after it gets here,Monday? Needs some TLC,and needs new setup,new strings,and overall cleaning. Was trying to find a clear pick guard,to replace it with. I managed to find a used white pick guard. Going replace all the pick guard screws,and the allen head bridge bolts. Probably put the foam mutes back on the bridge.

Once I made a clear pickguard from acrylic glass and a jigsaw. But a white one will also look fine. A cut mouse-pad works for the mutes. :thumbsup:

Well got the 87 MusicMan Sabre today. Don't know where this has been,but from the looks of it,around the world,and back! Someone didn't take care of this,like I would have!

Took a chance on it bought for sentimental reasons? Overall not too bad being is 31 years old? Anyway it has a beautiful birdseye neck,with aged finish. Could consider it an original relic'd look. Here are pictures with the clear pick guard before I cleaned it up,as much as possible? Pictures with white pick guard is after I cleaned it up. I took the bridge,off and took an old tooth brush and cleaned the bridge. Ordered the side bolts,for the bridge,that were not savable. Put new round wound strings on there,seller furnished! Going to need a good setup for sure. From what I see the neck,has a forward bow. Going to let it set overnight with the new strings right now. Always have to think which way to turn the truss rod to bring out the bow? Haven't tried the truss rod yet?Thanks,for letting me share this I consider my project Sabre.

if that's a question, tightening the truss rod nut clockwise will reduce forward bow / lower the action. This is a nice sabre that needs much deserved attention. seems like you're doing the right things.

Ok,Thanks,I turned the truss rod,about 1/4 turn let it set couple hours,and then tuned it back up after that. I backed the tension off before I turned the truss rod. I have since set the intonation,and lowered the strings at each saddle. Seems to be close to what I prefer. Don't have a straight edge to be precise,mostly eyeballing,and credit card clearance.

Nothing better than RESCUING a Sabre!!! Especiailly... if She winds up GREEN!!! :D:D:D Here's my '79. Was PINK, when She found Me. :woot:

Nice bass! I've the same thing.

I rarely use the bridge PU solo'd, but to my ears it sounds more mellow than compared to a 'ray. One one the reasons why I like the Sabre more than a 'ray. My two cents.

Some more pictures of the 87 Sabre,trying to clean up,since I got. Beginning to remind me of the roasted birdseye neck? Pictures with the lighting,makes it look lighter,than actual lighting? Think,I am going to take the tuners off,and soak them in vinegar about 24hours? Tuners,have lot of built up residue over the years? Adding couple before and after cleaning and soaking the tuners ,and got new bridge bolts today. Decided to order a tortoise pick guard today,I know some don't like the tort,but I do. Hopefully not boring anyone,glad I was able to get this Sabre,because it was like the one I had back in '85. Looked at old tape,I had back then,noticed the one I had was a maple fret board. Basically just trying to clean it up and get all the crud off,and enjoy!

Hey guys

Kevin Brubaker is restoring a '79 neck/'87 body Sabre and we are looking for a wiring diagram for the 5 way switch.
I've done a pretty exhaustive google and TalkbAss search.
Can you point us in the right direction?
