"Classic" Ray :hyper:

How do you like the gloss neck?

Hey folks,

Here is my new 2009 SR 4 HH. It is string-thru-body ONLY, which the EB-ophiles say is very unusual.

This is my 3rd Stingray, and my first HH. The dual humbucker is MUCH better (IMO) than the single H model.

She is now wearing Chrome flat wounds and sounds great!

Apologies for the poor picture, my phone camera isn't great. And being trans teal, the bad light doesn't do it justice! My 1996 (I think) SR:

I've seen a few other '96 Stingrays and they've not got the 'older' style bridge, so I'm not dead certain when my bass dates from.

Nice bass! I also have a trans teal SR4. Does yours have crazy birdseye on the neck?

My '95 has the transition bridge like yours. I have since fitted the string mutes on mine.

If you are changing strings you can pull the neck. There should be a build date in the neck pocket.

I'm still getting used to my new old SR5 but I'm loving it. It's my current #1!:D

Last night I wanted to use it to practice some Motown stuff. I made a foam mute out of some weather stripping and watch out! It has the thump needed for emulating Jamerson but the punch available is outrageous. I was really surprised at how great it sounded with that genre.

Anyhoo I was wondering if some of you Stingrayheads could help me out. I have a thread in the pickup section but all I'm getting is crickets over there. :o:D

My pickup seems like it's starting to go micro but I'm not sure. I assume it's not normal for tapping on the pickup cover to be amplified? Kinda sucks when playing with a pick. :hmm:

Thanks Jerry- mine does indeed have a birdseye maple neck, I love it.

Great picture of your bass- yours certainly looks a lot more blue than mine. In my room, where it's pretty dark, the bass looks an almost swamp-green colour (as in the photograph), though when it's in the sunlight the colour really shows up. Though on the 'greener' side of teal than yours. Maybe it's my eyes!

I've not got round to checking the date in the neck pocket yet, even though I've owned it since October 09. I'll get round to it soon enough!

On the subject of mutes, any idea where you can pick up a set? I'm in the UK so I'm not sure how easy it'd be. They'd be ideal for the bar/lounge covers duo I'm in!
