Musicman vs Ibanez

Ibanez vs. EBMM?

Why aren't you comparing the prestige version of the Ibanez to the EBMM? I mean in terms of dollars to donuts (Euros to éclairs?) that would be a much closer debate quality wise.

Personally I think the Bongo's look stupid. Before the witch hunt begins and you start the bonfires a'roasting that’s just my opinion and if you like them then get one. Just sayin' they're not for me. I know the Bongo is what John Myung is using now so it would be kinda cool to have one for DT covers, but he changes bass companies every other album or so, so if you're looking at a Bongo because John Myung has one...... I wouldn't.

BTW I love playing the intro to "Scarred". It's one of my favorite bits to illustrate that contrary to popular belief, feel and technique are not mutually exclusive.

For me I'm using this guy, a Carvin LB76:

Pretty different beasts.

Friend of mine has a 505, I can't stand it. Dull tone and I don't like the feel of the SR basses (they feel like toys IMO).

I doubt you'll go wrong with a bongo, the fit finish and feel of those EB MM basses is amazing (I've got a couple Stingrays :) ).

If I was going with Ibanez and looking at 6'ers, I'd be checking out the BTB range (again, I've got one (BTB406) so I have a slight bias).

Simply put, the Bongo is a beast. An ultra-versatile tone monster which will overwhelm you with its incredibly strong personality.

This is funny, because I am a huge EBMM fan, play Stingray and Sterling exclusively, and these are NOT subtle basses! They have huge tone and huge personality. But having said that, the reason there's no Bongo 6 in my collection yet is that I'm working up to it! And I've been playing for 32 years!!

Seriously, when the Bongo HH first came out, I found a 5-string hanging in my local GC in Firemist Orange. I thought it was the best sounding, most versatile bass I'd ever heard... but with all of that PERSONALITY it scared me off! LOL!!! I regret that now, because that was the coolest finish ever on the Bongos, and you never see them up for sale used.... :crying:

I haven't tried the Bongo 6 yet, but I've played a few 4 and 5 string Bongos, and was thoroughly underwhelmed with their tone. Because I played Stingrays exclusively throughout the 90's, I guess I grew accustomed to them, and probably expected the Bongo to have that type of sound. The SR506 probably has more in common tonally with the bongo 6 than you guys are giving it credit for; I'm pretty sure Bartolini designed the electronics for both basses. Personally, I'd go with the Ibanez. And yeah, I sold my 'Rays and got an ATK.
