Must you glue the nut?

I didn't glue a nut on an old electric guitar because it just fit really tight and I saw no use (and I was just trying to get the conversion done late at night an was lazy).

Yes it should be glued in, yes you only need a tiny bit, and CA is all I use because it dries fast, dries brittle and hard (good for tone theoretically) and removes easily if done right.
