Mustang Sally sighting

Well, I am! And I'll play all three -- back to back if I have to TWICE -- if it gets the crowd going!

Personally, I love playing Mustang Sally! There's a lot of crap in the set list that I like less than MS, and not anything that I can think of off the top of my head than I like more. Well...except for maybe "The Weight".

I don't hate those songs as much as I pretend to. If the crowd likes it, I'll play it, and enjoy it. It's a major part of why I'm in bands to begin with. I LOVE old Genesis, but it would be no fun to ace all their songs in front of a yawning - and dwindling - crowd.

@AaronVonRock: Your post belongs in the "What Did I Learn Today" thread also.

Three beers later, the band played Mustang Sally and the place went crazy. Lots of ladies seemed to appear out of nowhere and filled the dance floor. Even my wife recognized the song after 15 seconds.
And that is why it gets played by working, crowd-pleasing bands.

Freebird!
That one gets done also. 9 times out of 10 when we end the song, the audience response is similar to those in my long hair and spandex days....cheering, whistling, clapping, standing up clapping. The isolated bass and isolated bass/drum tracks are on my mp3 player.

Realizing there are fewer days in front of me than there are behind, I'd much rather spend performing time watching dancing women and/or getting energetic audience responses. It's what we do for fun, to stay healthy(move our own gear), and remain sane in an insane world.
Beats sitting on the sofa staring at a plastic box.

I enjoy playing this song when the drummer can lay down a decent groove. What's not to like about women out on the dance floor?

Yell "FREEBIRD!", however and you'll get my stock comeback in the mic-

"Huh- I think he said 'BIEBER'? Nope, we don't do any of his."
