Muzz Skillings' tone

Hi there,

I just got a Zoom B9.1UT unit. I would like to use it to replicate (or at least get a proxy of) Muzz Skillings' tone on Glamour Boy.

What combination of preamp/amp/cabinet/effect would you suggest to get in the mood of his tone on Glamour Boy ?

I've not had any experience with the Zoom B9.1UT, but believe Muzz was using Spector and/or Warwick Basses, EMG pick-ups and Trace Elliot Amps back then pretty much un-effected (maybe a little compression). Sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong but is easy to get his tone with fresh strings and that kinda rig.

Hope this helps and hope someone with experience with the Zoom can chime in to assist! :)

I used to have a Bass Player magazine article that had his signal chain from the recording. But that's long gone. Living Colour is the only concert I've been to that the band didn't do an encore. Lost a lot of love that night.

Really? They must have had a bad night - I saw them in 1992 and they played for a solid 2 1/2 hours with an encore, and they were amazing!

In response to the OP, whatever you do, the tone needs to be pretty bright and clear. Maybe a little bit of very subtle, high-end enhancement or chorus?

Thank you very much. I used the "Trace Elliot" preamp modelling, at 100% tone setting. I put new strings on my Rockbass Streamer (the LX one with active MEC electronics and P/J pickups), and I got closer.

I tried some compression and some slight Chorus, but I did not work too well.

I don't think I could move any closer with my rig (the pickups are not hot enough to replicate EMG sound). But it is much better with you advices.
