MXR bass effects really impressing me..

Agreed. MXR Chorus is lifeless. I have got both Tech21 Bass Boost and Boost Choruses. And how can you describe that pseudo delay?
Well, the Mad Dr. Stutter is a straight up kill-switch stutter effect, and at certain settings it sounds like a delay because essentially it is breaking up your tone into small parts that repeat until the signal decays. But like I said, it's really a very "pseudo" delay, since it is not actually recording and playing back your signal. But I find it much more musical than a straight delay, which, let's face it, often gets lost in the mix on bass.

Here's a good video of it on guitar. I've not seen anyone using it on bass yet.

I see that everyone here totally digs mxr effects. I currently own an mxr micro flanger and it sounds totally awesome on bass. it gives me a basic jet flanging sound. which is what I actually look for in a flanger pedal. and this pedal pretty much delivers what I want it. it also sound really cool with distortion. it gives me an eddie van halen kind of sound on bass. even though I don't use flanger effects, I do like messing around with it. plus I have been using it for certain parts of songs.

On another note, I've been looking at mxr chorus pedals for quite a while and I've been looking at the black label chorus and the analog chorus. I've been thinking about purchasing one of these chorus pedals as a back up to my danelectro cool cat cc-1 chorus. I am kinda leaning towards the black label chorus mainly because I am a fan of black label society. and it seems to have a little more lush than the analog chorus. I am hoping that it can handle my distortion effects. I do use distortion and overdrive with chorus. it widens and thickens my distorted bass sound. if anyone here can tell me how any of these chorus pedals sound with distortion or overdrive, I really would appreciate the input.

... Not a bass specific pedal but I currently own the Phase 90 and I LOVE it on bass! My current setting for it somewhere between 10 and 11 o'clock. Great for slower songs, it fills the the room very nicely. I use it at my church for some slower songs. I rarely set it above 12 o'clock unless I'm just messing around at home :p

Just got the BCD and Carbon Copy yesterday. I don't know what you guys are talking about...I think it's a killer chorus that does what I need in a chorus. Flange mode is a little Boss-ish, but on slow speeds it gets this cool nastiness to it. But the CC's modulation mode turned out to be a very pleasant surprise....sort of like a heavy chorus with a tightly gated echo/reverb on it. Was thinking it would be useless on bass and more suited for my guitar playing at first till I experimented with the mod trimpots. Absolutely rips with heavier distortion and fuzz. So that brings my MXR total to 5, 4 of which I'm using on my board (BFD got beat out by my Animato clone). Now if they ever come up with a Bass Fuzz Face, the Animato might have a problem.

if MXR would ask you "what pedal should we do next for the Bass Innovations line?"

my answer: MXR Bass Phaser
Mine would be "Bass Fuzz Face." In a 1590a or b pedal, though, not a flying saucer. But they are letting Smallsound/Bigsound capture the Bass Fuzz Face market and are leaving money on the table. A simple basic Fuzz Face would appeal to those of us who like the TAFM but don't need the gated fuzz section.

I've recently purchased an mxr black label chorus and it sounded pretty cool on bass. I purchased it to replace the danelectro cool cat cc-1 chorus pedal that I have owned for about 5 years(which sadly died out on me) and it's got some pretty cool sounds. it's got a nice analog chorus sound and even though it's made for guitar, it does work well on bass. it sounds great clean and with the use of my distortion pedals. I've heard that many people say that it sounds similar to the mxr analog chorus. I haven't tried that pedal out personally, but I have taken a chance to own the black label chorus mainly because I am a fan of black label society and I have to say it sounded pretty good on bass. this one is staying on my pedalboard along with my mxr micro flanger.

I like that idea though I also like the idea of a Gated Fuzz pedal along the lines of the Woolly Mammoth except more affordable and plays well with active pickups.

Well that sounds like the TAFM.
Granted I've never had the pleasure to play through a TAFM and while it seems like a great pedal from all of the sound samples I've listened to it still doesn't have quite the same "synthy"-fuzz vibe that the Woolly Mammoth has but perhaps I haven't heard enough of the TAFM as I should've! Either/or would still make a great addition MXR's lineup though!

That Rat clone pedal is probably amazing. People saying it has too much distortion are missing that the original RAT on bass was run with barely any drive. Just enough to get grindy. It was so good on a jazz bass. I used it all the time for rock gigs and bass players always asked me how I got the tone. But I also dealt with tone suck and things of that nature. To have that grind in a pedal that lets you blend wet/dry is a godsend. I wish I had that 10 years ago.

I like the fact that they have 2 volume controls, instead of a blend.
blending sucks IMO, if you turn up the effect; you turn down the clean.
I don't want that. I want my cleans to stay, and add the effect in a parallel fashion.
Having a 2 volume control mixer does that. Way to go MXR!

To each their own, I much prefer a blend knob as I find that easier to work with. Given the same resulting output level you should get the same sound regardless if you have blend+volume or volume+volume knobs, you just dial in the desired relative levels of dry and effect in two different ways.

Not quite, I first set my clean level to match my bypassed sound/unity gain.
And then I add the effect with it's separate volume control.
So I'm not really blending, but rather adding to my already existing sound.

But to each his own of course.
The outcome is the same and you are blending, just by way of different controls. Anyway, a matter of taste.
