MXR bass effects really impressing me..

Think I read somewhere that the added resistor that's one of the main differences between the script and the block Phase 90s adds a slight mid-boost.

True. There's the famous R28 mod which removes this resistor in the block 90 to make it sound like a script. Personally, I love the chewiness of the stock block 90 and wouldn't mod it for anything.

The swollen pickle is louder and more aggressive. It can be tweaked from the inside. The MXR bass fuzz is lower and more classic sounding. Like 60s rock. They are both different enough to warrant their own place on the board. That's until the duality shows up.

They are very different beasts. The MXR is a fizzy type of fuzz, the Swollen Pickle is good for scooped Muff type tones and it's really punchy and has a serious bottom end. The MXR is ok if it's a type of fuzz which you like. Personally, I didn't like it much. I prefer gated or muffy fuzzes.

Just to add a bit here...I'm not really one for the fizzy fuzz sound. I sort of like the thick and heavy side of fuzz (muffs and pickles) but recently a mammoth or Mastotron have really caught my attention..now THAT's my kind of grind:
