MXR bass effects really impressing me..

I also have a gtod. Kicked it off my board, as I found it lost low end in my situation.
The distortion 3 was ok, but as with all of their guitar oriented drive offerings, it dropped low end.
I'm now using the hardwire cm2, ehx bass soul food, glove, and ibanez bass tube screamer for my drive needs

I have an MXR octave, envelope filter, and compressor (my only effects). The compressor can be set to gently level the signal, crush it to oblivion, or anywhere in between. I use it more for gentler leveling, but I'm guessing with the right combo of input and release you would be in sustain heaven.

cool, thanks...does it do the sustain thing like compressor/sustainer would? just curious...

I believe the way compressors (should) work, yes, it sustains the note a bit longer and also provides a bit of fattening to the tone.
If you really want to know more about compressors, go to Bongo's site at Link Removed if you haven't already.
I will say this comp is very transparent and does it's job at a reasonable price.

my board. i just remembered, the last time i had my pedalboard (it's in the pawnshop right now) i had my amps (ampeg ba115hp) eq knob at 4 so the wah can be more noticable in the fuzz. i really want to rearrange my board, but i can't at the moment.

I've been to bongo's site...it's like reading the bible :D there is so much there...I don't get as much out of it as folks that know how the things work, though...color me tech-dumb ;)

I too am a fan of the MXR Bass Innovations. The Filter is exceptional, as is the Octave, and I'm warming up to the Fuzz now too. Also still have the old M80, but finally let the Carbon Copy go- a bit too dark for my taste. Overall though, a solid brand of bass specific pedals that deserve a listen.

I'm also a big MXR fan. I've had to deal with their customer service and it is just as the pedals are: stellar. Nice people that make you feel like a person and not a serial number. As for their pedals, I've owned quite a few (including Dunlops and Way Huges') and will continue to do so. My pedalboard is not worthy of the name if there ain't at least 2 MXR pedals on it.

I just bought my sixth MXR pedal, the Bass Octave Deluxe, to add to my Phase 90, Bass Compressor, Bass Chorus Deluxe, Smart Gate and M80 Bass DI+.
I really love all of them. They are better than the Boss equivalents in all cases imho.

I don't even need an octaver, but it is a sparkly blue, so there was no choice really.:)

Always hated endorsement boards...they always have pedals that suck that nobody in their right minds would use without an endorsement. But I'll tell you...the more I try out MXR pedals, the more I could be talked into doing one with them. Would probably skip on the Blowtorch, though ;) That's a specialty pedal that's not my specialty. But I got that Bass Distortion a week and a half ago and it flat out kills. And not just for harder sounds, either...it'll do a Jamerson-style mild OD if you want that as well. Plus if you put the dry knob up halfway, you can pretty much flip the other knobs at will and get great sounds every time that don't screw your levels in a DI. Easily became my favorite bass dirt pedal of all time instantly.

And now despite hating chorus since the 90's, the Bass D's forcing me to get a chorus because it's a Rat modded for bass, and I quit liking chorus but I loved the sound of a Rat with chorus and still do. I went and tried a bunch out at the stores, decided I liked the Bass Chorus Deluxe best overall and didn't see anything in boutique world that made me change my mind. Lots of nice stuff out there, but the BCD seemed like the best bang for the buck. Then on a whim I decided to get an analog delay since I never had one before, and I figured I'll get a Carbon Copy. Nice simple delay, sounds great, no other features I don't think I'll need. For bass, I can't see using it for much but a little slapback here and there, but I also play guitar so it'll get some usage there for sure. Might try it on my upright and see if I can come up with anything cool.

That'll bring my total MXR count up to 5. Not quite an endorsement board but a lot of MXR. I'm swapping out the Bass Fuzz Deluxe with the Bass Distortion to consolidate dirt so I'll only be using 4, though. And now I really have to stop with the pedals for a while. I got like 10 or 11 new ones in the last year, including a tricked out and expensive JohnK Animato clone. It's sick! It's not a pedal for everyone but I have a lot of fun with it. But while most of you buy 10 or 11 pedals a month, I'm not quite that ambitious about it. Really don't want to go bigger than my PT Jr, either, so I'm done buying pedals. Seriously. What? You don't believe me? Of course you do. Don't you?

^ Wow, it was about time that MXR scored a home-run within the dirt section. I didn´t like their Bass Overdrive & Bass Fuzz Deluxe. I will buy that Bass Distortion for sure as soon it´s available in Europe. I might build a MXR only board: Compressor, the new Distortion, Envelope Filter and Carbon Copy. The Distortion would be my 4th MXR pedal, the Bass Octaver might be option #5, the MXR Preamp is also interesting but no need at the moment. I´m really digging the MXR Bass Innovation line ... keep it going MXR!!!

I really like MXR's bass pedals. They are a one stop guarantee of great electronics, packaging, size, features and tone. Except for their dirt pedals. I really like their El Grande Bass fuzz, but get the internal pot routed to the front...it makes it a lot more versatile. The Bass Overdrive isn't very transparent and seems to have a permanent EQ, which can be dialed back but not completely. The Bass Fuzz Deluxe is just a fizzy mess to my ears and the controls (like the BOD) are counter-intuitive. But all their other pedals are excellent and they are a reliable brand. If I need a certain analogue sound effect....MXR are my first go to. Their chorus rocks too.

More exercise, more good sleep.

OP here. Funnily enough I took all MXR off my board in lieu of Idiotbox pedals. Funny how fickle this game of pedals is. For the record and FWIW, I was very unimpressed with the Bass Chorus Deluxe. I just thought it sounded cold and sterile. I ended up with a tech 21 boost chorus bass, which I took off the board too. I just finally realized I hate modulation with bass. Now my only effects are various flavors of dirt and a Mad Dr. Stutter as a pseudo delay, which , in my opinion, is much more musical than a real delay pedal.

Regarding chorus, as much as I hate modulation, and as much as I hate Mr. Black and his hipster ethos, the Doublechorus is the only one that actually sounds, on video, like a keeper.
