MXR Iso-Brick

@nshuman's boards make my wallet, heart, and ears ache.

I need to mount my Iso still

I'm a little concerned about running the wall wart from my board to an outlet, so I'm looking into different options for mount a power strip or extension cable under my PT2.

Hi can someone tell everyone if this power supply would be ok for the iso if I reserve the polarity? Thanks

The only reason I'd use an alternative PS is to have something heavier duty. I don't want to mount a power strip under my board but I worry about the wires on the wall wart wearing out rather quickly

Yes, if you reverse the polarity you will be fine. The current rating will be ok for one ISO.

Flat laptop ones will fit under a pedalboard. so you can have a simple sable come out from your pedalboard.

Ah, did not think of that! Sure does take up a lot of room under there, though! It would also be pretty dicey to get it to fit under my PT-Jr. I think it would fit but just barely. I just velcro my stocker to the underside and hook up an extension cord to it.

I will get one eventually because I have three under the PT-Pro and 2 under the PT-2. If I get some with enough current on tap, I would only need one for each of the boards, it would simplify things quite a bit.

So I ordered a ISO Brick and am still waiting for it since it was in back order. I didn't quite think my complete board through, but since the order I've added a Noble preamp to my board which has its own 9v power supply section for 6 pedals. But it needs a plug to an outlet for its own power. (Power cable)

Then once I hook up the ISO brick I can move all the pedals to that instead Andy have isolated power. Plus I'll have an 18v pedal which is really the only reason I opted for a power supply. My question is though, does the ISO brick need to 2A to work entirely or does it only 'use' what you hook up to it?

The noble provides 900ma, and my pedals are well below that amount, I'd guess 6-700 at most. If it would work to power the ISO brick I could eliminate the wall wart and have my board powered with a single plug.

I am really doubting this will work.

I'm not sure but I was wondering the exact same question for a different reason. I think I posted this in the Breeder thread but maybe not here. While we're on the subject of the ISO Brick's power, my wall-wart started fraying recently. MXR says they will replace it and I have an RMA but I didn't send it in yet because I still need it. I wrapped it in electrical tape while I looked for a replacement/backup. They are $20!!! There were cheaper 18V 1A options but I didn't want to risk it. So I ordered the replacement, and it should get here today. Then I'll be able to send the original in, get that replaced, and have a backup.

There was a point where I semi-defended the wall-wart design, possibly in this thread. Not that I thought it was a great idea, I just didn't think it was all that stupid and that there might be a design reason for it. I have reversed my opinion on that.

Well my original viewpoint was that an IEC would be been better but ultimately it may have saved space, and it's just a tradeoff that some people may prefer. Obviously a lot of people didn't prefer that though. After using it the actual wart is bit of a hassle, albeit a minor one, but yeah, the biggest thing is how flimsy the cord is. I'm going to wrap tape around both ends of the new cords as soon as I get them.

I believe Mr. Broughton built a box for a user that wanted to use an IEC or laptop power supply to power 2 Iso's. I imagine he could whip something up for a single Iso and an IEC to supply it.
