mxr m87 or tlc for slap bass HELP!!!?

I own the TLC and prefer it over my friend's mxr. The aguilar is easier to use, dial a good tone and sounds better to my ears. I have only used the mxr once but I have to play more with it to really decide, but I love my aguilar tlc.

Ive heard about how finicky the mxr is as far as settings....but like i said, i just need to fatten up my tone, and have my slap parts stand out more..gonna try the tlc..have any recommended settings for what i need it for?

I want something that will fatten my tone

Don't get the MXR. It doesn't "fatten" anything. It's very transparent. Does it's job of squashing volume spikes and bringing up volume troughs, but it doesn't color one's tone in any perceptible way.

Which is exactly what I want! But you sound like you're looking for something with more noticeable coloration.

Hmm. Having owned both I would say the MXR definitely colors your tone more than the TLC - although it is quite transparent, itself.

it definitely give me what I was missing all along! now i just have to figure out how to set my 10 band EQ, that I have after the compressor, for a good slap and clear tone...think "Take The Power Back" by Rage Against the Machine....but beefier, the treble is just a LITTLE too much, and there was no feeling of much low end at all...

......any suggestions? i have a gig in 2 days and am being forced to use a Hartke VX3500...in which I am HIGHLY unfamiliar with.....i will be very limited on time to fiddle with this thing, approx 10 minutes or less.....

its for a battle of the bands with the grand prize winner being able to play at Hard Rock Calling in London, England in July......id MUCH rather bring my GK amp/cabs but they said they have to be "fair" to the competition by making the bands play through their backline equipment.....so me and my drummer are gonna have to make some quick adjustments!

If you're wanting a good slap tone then boost the lows, cut the mids, and raise the treble some. It's a bad EQ setting for everything else because you need those mids to cut through, but for slap it's the go to EQ setting.

Btw, I'm in the same competition and we get to use our own rigs. Good luck in the next round!

Awesome bro! The one in houston made the call to backline a bass cab and drum kit. I think its bs honestly .. any input or suggested comp settings? I only use the eq for slap....i need a comp setting thatll be good for ALL techniques
