My 2010 Alembic Jason Newsted Elan 5 string

BlackElan and FCBass,

Both of your instruments are absolutely beautiful. I am also an Alembic owner and fan and I typically lean towards the beautiful wood grains as opposed to covering them up with paint or stain, but these black basses are really starting to grow on me.

Peace,

James

So they WILL still do P & J pickups!! I had em on my mid 80's Spoiler/Exploiter.

I havent seen those pickups in forever- I figured Alembic stopped making em.
Nice to see they'll trot them out for the right project.

Enjoy that bass when you get it in your hands!

They have been around always actually, though they're not standard in their current line of basses.
Last models with P/J pickups were the Elan and Persuader in the early 90's.

The pickups have always been available for custom basses and from the Link Removed, I have them in my Link Removed

Soundwise I think the type of pickup doesn't impact tone very much, I have AXY, MXY and P/J loaded basses and they all sound like... Alembic :-)

AXY and MXY are identical on the inside, only the outer shell size is different. The P pickups obviously have two more coils and I think the J pickups have slightly thinner magnets than the AXY/MXY.

Bigger difference in sound comes from the Fatboy pickups (wider magnets, AXY size housing) and the Series I/II single coils which will give you the ultimate version of "the" Alembic sound.

@ Jason: Have you seen her already?
Have peeked at the pics everyday since you posted them, looks freakin' awesome dude!

That's unreal man. Jason is like tied for my #1 guy ever and it would be sweet to get one of his actual axes or a replica like that. Would LOVE to have an '81 NS2 like he has, not only b/c he played/recorded with it but that's my birth year too, so it all works out. :) I actually enjoyed his Alembic tones so that's a killer score. :bassist::bassist:
I've oft wondered if PJ and/or Stu would remake some of his early early Spector sigs. THAT would be something! :hyper::hyper:

Very cool indeed! My next custom will definitely be also solid black, looks great!

I did my first gig with my "almost black" version last weekend: YouTube link Lethal low A# (check @ the end of the song)

Mine took about 26 months from the first mails to/from Alembic till delivery. I paid april 24 2009 and got the bass December 12 2010
I think it would be about 12K if you order one now.
