my band played a show without me?!?!

I would invite the current band-leader for a one to one meeting, have a good heart felt talk with him, shake his hand then without warning give him a vicious nut shot. Whether or not I kicked the living crap out him when he hit the floor would only depend on how hard I was laughing at him writhing around in pain.

Many years ago, my band was playing and the drummer asked if a friend of his could come up and play bass on a few songs. I said sure. Apparently, it was an audition because a couple of days later, I was asked to leave. About month after that, I was was at a club checking out another band. The drummer showed up. He told me that the other bass player wasn't working out and asked me to come back. I decided to forgive and forget and rejoined the band. We stayed together for about 3 more years and are still friends.

Maybe things will work out for you as well.

I'm glad it worked out for you but had it been me I'd have told him to stick it.

They know the other person really well and trust him. He's friends with everyone in the band (except me lol) I need to ask why he did it because he wasn't even the one who played. They got the old bassist to play!

Yeah, it's looking fishy. I can see both sides....

Communication often times is a big problem. Someone thinks that you're unavailable, so they say it to the band, start to talk who they can get to fill in for you that show, before long they're so concerned with that no one ever thought to verify if you're available or not!

The other side is super passive-agressive band kick-outing.

My advice? Ask all of them, collectively, if they want you out of the band. Tell 'em this is their free pass, and if the goal is to get you gone, speak now or forever hold your piece.

I was once asked to let a friend of the band come up and play a few songs on bass at a gig.

I was leaving for a cruise the next day.

When I got back from the cruise, there was an email waiting that said they had replaced me with him. Mind you, I was never given any feedback that I wasn't cutting it. Quite to the contrary.

well, fast forward 4 years later. I'm with a new band in a new state for 3 1/2 years now, playing huge festivals, traveling. The previous band? gone.
