He really isn't full of himself. We are just specific about what we are looking for and don't want to waste time with the wrong person. A little overboard? Sure. I really don't think we will get any responses from that add...
If you think that you won't get any responses, then that tells you all you need to know about the effectiveness of the ad.
If you're serious about getting a 2nd guitarist, than you might want to take some of the feedback that has been given in this forum and use that to craft an ad that will actually generate responses.
Like it, would read again...don't get the part about pointy guitars. Comes off as arrogant and pretentious. Why limit yourself?

Humorous? Nah, I'd say pathetically arrogant.
When you combine: "Music is guitar oriented southern groove metal. Must be both a strong rhythm and lead player into the dual guitar roll" with: "The ability to play tastefully is a must, not looking for someone who wants to play finger gymnastics over the music. We are not looking for a straight up metal guitarist", it just makes you sound desparately lost on what kinda sound you're actually going for. Like I want vanilla ice cream without the vanilla!!!! And you didn't even say please!

Dude..that ad is not cool. I've met people just like that over my years of playing. Let's just say life is too short for such nonsense.
I personally get tired of seeing ads demanding you must use such and such equipment or forbidden to use other types.
I find that pathetic. I've played with people with all types of musical equipment and I've come to realize I don't care what they play as long as they are musical. I've seen guys play chunks of wood that barely qualify to be described as guitars and completely amaze me with their skill. On the other hand I've seen players manhandle high end beautiful gear and make the most God awful sounds.
Not to diss your band or anything, but with that attitude real musicians will tire quickly of you guys. Tell your guitarist to get his act together. Just my 2 cents.

In my experience, a lot of musicians are willing to make changes and compromises in their look, style, gear, etc., to become a good fit for a band. There are a few stubborn hold outs, but most players will morph for you if they really dig your project.
But no one wants to be beat over the head from the word "go."
By delivering the stern lecture right out of the gate, you're just filtering out a lot of good musicians who have the desire and could potentially become a good fit for your band.
The short, simple ad attracts more candidates, and then you can talk to them about the specifics of direction, image, and style.
Just like with a personal dating ad, the "bullseye" approach really limits your talent pool.

I'm pretty sure that if this weren't a member's band's ad, it would be in the "Dumb CL Ads" thread.
I think the consensus is that most serious and qualified players will avoid this ad like a case of the clap. It would be wise to rewrite it.
Too wordy, too much attitude, too easily ignored. Time for a re-write.
How about:
Looking for second guitarist to complete our band, our sound and our future. We play <inserts genre types>. We look forward to hearing from you and giving you a try-out. Contact Bob at 123-45-7890 or [email protected]. Thank you for your time and have a nice day.

jumping on the band wagon here, your add is not good.
you are recruiting someone to share in a collective artistic vision, don't start out the relationship from such a negative stance.
if i were you, i'd keep it positive and shorten it, no body wants to read your manifesto. the intro could be solid with some editing (focussing on who the band is). consider adding the band members approximate ages (ie; ages 25-32), as this can create some awkward situations (19 year old auditioning for a bunch of 40 year olds and vice versa)
then use use bullets to convey expectations. i would include include:
-expectations (ie; must have transportation, a job, pro gear, professional gear including a tube amp, able to rehearse twice weekly, hang factor is important, etc.)
-aspirations (tour the world, weekend warriors, etc)
-the band influences

Only humor I see is the utter fail in trying to be any of those things you descibe in the OP.
I think the creator of the ad is cold, heartless and quite foolish if he thinks he'll find someone by insulting their wife, choice of equipment or playing style. The ad comes off like it was written by a 13 year old.

I think you should rewrite that ad and give everyone who responds a chance. Sure, there might be a 22 year old dude with a razorback guitar, no job, poor, but has amazing playing skill and happens to fit the bill and then some and just because the ad's extremely picky and filters almost everyone out realistically, would never have a chance because of being so picky.
