My Bass Is Picking Up Glenn Beck...

Is this an active or passive bass?

It could be a function of the AC wiring in your house/apartment. Does it happen in other places or with different amps?

I would suggest you add a 100pf capacitor from the hot lug of the output jack to ground, as an RF filter.

It is active w/ an Aguilar OBP3 and a pair of EMG 40 J's. It's only happened that one time with one amp. I'm not thinking it would be a big problem after all but if it does I've got a ton of options now thanks to all the help. Much appreciation fellas!!!

Nothing that might help the OP, but a neat little titbit of info that might be the result of a similar thing:

Listen to Does Everyone Stare on Reggatta de Blanc (The Police). Right at the end of the first chorus, you'll hear a tenor (singer) come in and then fade.

There was an interview of the Police on the radio several years back (I think it was around '81 or '82, between Ghost and Synchronicity) where they mentioned that they didn't know where it came from, but they decided to leave it in.

Be very careful when investing a bunch of money in audipphile cables. Shielding is necessary, yes, but beyond that, differences can only be picked up with electronic instruments, not the human ear. A Monster cable is fine.

Wow, not to completely derail the topic, but what's with the hate for Glenn Beck? I'll admit that I'm a "right-wing conservative" or whatever, but jeez, he speaks the truth more often than not, especially compared to someone like Olbermann.

I specifically asked at the top of this page that the politics be kept out of this, and that it be kept on topic. Any further digressions in this vein from *anyone* will result in infractions.

I used to pick up the oldies station through my amp , I didn't really mind, I like the music and it only happened in my old house. So +1 to house wiring.

I now use Pro Co Lifelines and they seem decent enough, but Bayou Cables are cheaper and I do need a cable or two....

Just curious, was it an AM station? Do you live close to the station?

Years ago I had a cable that would detect a nearby AM station. When I connected it to my old Wollensak reel to reel it would be a clean enough signal to record. And the best part was that all the frequencies were there! Superhet AM radios are notorious for rolling off the higher frequencies, but the lone cable sounded as good or better than most FM.

Of course I'd prefer not to have a modern AM station show up on a bass amp. As others have noted, most likely it's the cable not shielding the RF. Should be an easy fix.
