Had a chance to play with it earlier today. I was an infidel---I only played guitar with it due to reasons having to do with cables.
First impressions:
PROS:
---The user interface is full of win. Not that it needed to be complicated, but David & Co. absolutely knocked it out of the park.
---While I was playing I thought the drums sounded really good (i.e., mixed with other instruments).
---The range of styles and drum sets was really cool. I didn't get to explore all of them, but there were a lot of cool sounds.
---Overall simplicity of use was great.
---Lots of fun to add fills.
---The stop/start function was something I didn't expect to use when it was announced, but it's actually really cool.
CONS:
---While I was NOT playing (i.e., no other instruments) I could maybe see the complaints with the sound quality. I didn't think it was bad, but I also wasn't blown away. Of course, I was using it through a medium-quality-at-best guitar amp. I didn't try headphones.
---I don't find the accent hits to be all that interesting. I would love some other options for the use of this footswitch in future firmware updates.
---The branded footswitch is nice looking, but it's a lot bigger than I think I realized. If I had to do it over again I might have gone with a custom-made third party one to save on space.
---Timing the fills and transitions is going to take a little bit of practice. Some fills are awkward.
---I felt like, on a "per style" basis, there wasn't as much variety as I was hoping for. I.e., you get a great sampling of all sorts of different styles, but I didn't immediately notice a ton of variety between, for example, the "rock" songs.
TBD:
---I would like to hear it through full range speakers.
---I didn't test any MIDI functionality.
---DAT SOFTWARE.
Overall, I'm very happy. Even though I put a long list of cons up there, there are minor compared to the pros. I obviously only scratched the surface today, and I'm looking forward to using the unit more and more.
