About caps: There are 4 electrolytics in the basic OS circuit, and for these I used panasonic caps, these sound better in audio circuits than cheapos. In powersupply circuits it doesn't matter.

I used WIMA brand MKP film caps for the normal caps, these are easily available where I live. Never change polar for non-polar or vice versa unless you know what your doing.


About the PCB making: there are several ways to create traces, look at the DIY links previously posted here, or google PCB making/etching.

Ok I got around to putting the GGG OSQ and tried the A. Colman - Tonepad mods.

I liked the bleeder cap and feedback resistor changes but I didn't like the 1uF output cap; I found it overly noisy and it lost too much of the Orange squeezeryness of the sound. So I put the 4.7uF output cap back in. Sounds cool; real squashy with the upper mids boosted a bit.

This was fun but I think is Beachcoma right, next FX box I make I’ll do it my self. The main reason I went with a kit in the first place was hunting down the parts for the thing would have cost me a lot more then the kit did.

I reduced the feedback resistor to 140 R, but there is still some drive when I hit the bass hard. I was hoping I could turn the OS into a compressor without any overdrive/crunch but it don't seem like it's posible. After all it is a guitar compressor...

Am I the only one with mild overdrive when you hit the bass hard?

Just adjust the internal trimmer, i've got it set right on the edge, as my playing is fairly uniform. So when I get into a song and play hard, its just on the edge of breaking up. Sounds like a million bucks

That is in the nature of the OS circuit. Yeah, you can adjust the bias to minimize that overdrive, but honestly if you want no grit- you want a different comp. The OS is specifically famous for being slightly dirty.
