My Dingwall Prima 6 IN PROGRESS!!!!

Geoff, THese pictures are incredible, but I do have a nuts and bolts question for you. I assume that you will have a High C strng on it, but WHat is the scale length going to be on that string? I know the g is 34" on a standard dingwall, so id the C going to be shorter than that, or will it have a longer B string?
Also, what is Shelton's progress on a low f#? Is he thinking about a 7 string with a low F#, or a 6 string?

Geoff;
Amazing.... even the pickup covers have accent lines. Again this is a museum peice, you can't play it-its against the law.
You'll dig the FD-1's p'ups, they sound killer on my fretless, the more you play em...they more you'll like em. They do sounds quite different than Barts.
Is it coming w/ a Blue cube circuit too.

creme filling....yummmm

Geshel,
I don't know too much about the pickups, other than the fact that they are co-designed by Fury Guitars and Dingwall. The web page doesn't explain too much technical detail on the pickups. Talking directly with Sheldon is the only way I could see to get more info.

Other than that, I changed to an Aquilar OBP-3 preamp today. Sheldon seems to really like them, so he asked if I would like to switch. The preamp will possibly have a mid sweep as well.

Geshel:
I believe sheldon winds his own p'ups. Apparently they are setup/geared up/machined up (whatever) to do this kind of thing. I have FD-1s in my bass and they sounds great. Wide open sounding, polite w/ nice presence, and when coaxed- very growly, not barky at all. They have a nice wound in mid bite.

Geoff-
Sheldon seems to really like those Aggie OBP preamps he commented that w/ the FD-1s they supposedly work real well. No doubt what he says. I was under the impression they were boost only, do they also have a mid sweep? is this standard w/ opb-3.
I ask becuz the bluecube will work aganist your mids to cut them back.
Lastly, more importantly-when will the bass be finished?
just curious

I was talking to sheldon today about an afterburner 4 string, and found out a few details... I didn't have a pen handy so its a little sketchy as I'm going from memory - and the fact that I'm not a rocket scientist should tell you how good my memory is.

as I recall, the OBP1 is a bass treble boost only preamp. the OPB3 is a bass mid treble cut and boost preamp. both are 18 volt as far as I know.

I don't know a whole lot about pickups, but from memory, each pickup has 2 coils. Sheldon said that they are unbelievably quiet. I assume that this mean extraneous noise... (the pickups in my cheapo bass are real quiet too... -when the amp is off)

anyways, just thought I'd let you know that if I wasn't sold on Dingwalls before, this thread has totally convinced me and given me great confidence!!! way to go St. Geoff!!!

jmk

The FD-1 pickups are coproduced and manufactured by Dingwall and Fury Guitars (from the website). I really do not know specifically who does what part of the process.

Frank,
Sheldon is working with a few components to tweak the midrange response of the OBP-3 to work better with the bass. This could include a mid sweep. Basically, with the blueqube, this should give very versatile electronics.

Oh, and in case people haven't seen, the new Dingwall Website is up and it looks real good with a lot of good information.

raises the bar? - jes*s tap dancing chr*st!

that thing is unbelievable...

i don't participate in these threads very often, cause i really think alot of "topped" basses look like frauds - like a woman with a clearly tight body but just too much makeup y'know?

the tops are hot, but the backs are plain old ash etc....

but this thing...

ohmylawdinheaven...

it is the prettiest hi-end new-school axe i've yet seen - the other builders should look out for this one

congrats geoff - wow!!!
