My Dingwall Prima 6 IN PROGRESS!!!!

Geoff - If that sounds half as great as it looks, that is one hellluva bass!!! I love everything I see in the pics.

The accent treatment is so classy - like the binding on a fine acoustic instrument!

I read about Sheldon in a "Bass Player" when they featured certain luthiers for a few issues and his approach sounded most cool.

The incredible lightweight of redwood should lend some great resonance, besides its beauty. Please tell me he isn't going to slap plastic/steel covers on the back cavities!

Also, I didn't see anyone asking about which pups are going into that baby. Unless I overlooked that, which pups are going to have the honor of being used in it???

Rickbass,
No, the rear cavities covers are matching redwood lace burl. The pickups are custom wound Dingwall FD-1 pickups. These pickups have 30% more output and are voiced differently than the stock Bartolinis. These pickups are going in matching redwood lace burl pickup shells as well. The preamp is an 18v NTMB with a Dingwall BlueEQube circuit, which cuts back on the aggressive mids. Overall the electronics should be very versatile.

rickbass:
as far as pickups (I don't know exactly what Geoff ordered)...but sheldon now uses his custom wound Dingwll/Fury designed pickups called FD-1. He modelled then after the Fury guitarpickups, i have them on my Dingwall and they sound quite a bit different than the custom wound Bartolinis which usually come standard on Dingwalls.

So far my experience w/ the FD-1 p'ups has been they are more polite and wide open sounding. Less barky and more J bass like than the Bartolinis have been in the past (my Bartolini equipped A'burner bass sounds like an ultra resonant modern P-bass). Additionally Sheldon has some forms of a mid cut circuit called the bluecube which he likes to add -on to this FD-1.

Doh...guess Geoff just posted same time
