My experience with bassstringsonline.com part 2!

Check out the new http://bassstringsonline.com/ stickers. :D

I think I've just been struck blind. Do they come with a complimentary pair of shades? Nobody is gonna forget that once they see it.

But I guess that's the general idea, huh? :p

Got my order today from Jason. Fast. On his recommendation I tried the Dean Markley Helix SS strings. Low tension, smoother than Prosteels and lord, a little brighter sounding to my ears but still has the fundamentals. Each string balanced, and they are loud.

Good cat, knows his strings, great pricing, a TB discount and did I mention fast? Just put another order in for a couple more sets of those Helix.

Add me to the list of happy and impressed customers! It was my first order and just for a couple sets of strings, but Jason went out of his way to help me out. Outstanding customer service and selection!
BSO will certainly be my first stop whenever I'm shopping for bass stuff.

You could ask specific questions directed to me in this thread if you would like... Ex... Jason, what string is best for me? etc...

Fine! Jason throws down the gauntlet, the least I can do is pick it up!

Okay, so I have a four-string that begs to be slapped. Thing is, I *never* slap, but this is the axe I want to work on my chops with. It's currently strung with Half Rounds, which I think are a bit too stiff/high-tension for the purpose. I see you've recommended Boomers elsewhere, but I've tried them and HATED them. WAY too clanky for me (though I was using them for fingerstyle).

Can you recommend a string that's just delightful for slapping, but not too clangy?

Thanks!

How do you get the TB discount? Need a set of hi beams with a 120B. In CA :(

A string that is not going to be clangy but is still slapable? My go-to string... Pressurewounds / Compressors. Maybe try a Medium Light gauge, the lighter E / A strings will be easier to thumb. You could slap halfrounds, but I would go with lighter gauges, 40-100 for example, those would feel like 45-105's... I would go with D'Addario Halfrounds for that...

Cool, created my account.

Question on Labella strings. I used to get Hard Rockin Steel 5 string sets with a tapered B and E strings, loved those. The last sets I got had untapered Es that were thuddy and horrible. So two quesions: I don't see "hard rockin steels", just "stainless rounds" on your site, is that the same string? And are they taper cores? Ideally I'd actually love to get a custom set with B E A tapered, D and G normal.

Hard Rockin' Steel's have been replaced with Stainless Steel Round Wound Series. Same exact strings... In fact, sometimes I still get some in Hard Rockin' packaging!

For the international market they make some versions that have a tapered E string. I know this because I once got a set of Super Alloy's that had a tapered E string. I have never seen the tapered E in a set since and I asked them about it. They explained they make them like that for the Japan market, but not for here in the states.

Have you tried Super Steps? They have an exposed core on each string. These are not listed on the site as singles at the moment but we do make custom sets out of them as well.
