My experience with bassstringsonline.com part 2!

Apologies if this has been addressed earlier -- didn't see it within the last couple of pages and haven't followed the thread that closely lately:

I don't see GHS Precision Flats as being available in a "Build your own set" anymore. A major selling point for me was getting to pick my own gauges. Can I still do that?

That aside, I've been liking the .040 .055 .075 .100 .128. set on my fretless fiver more and more as I play them. Two niggles: G-string sounds just a bit thin compared to the others (could be my setup, but I thought I'd try a .045 -- went to order it and didn't see singles available) and the B-string doesn't quite match the rest of the set in clarity and sustain. I talked a bit more at length about this in the big thread on these strings.

Overall, though, great value for the money, and really nice tone and growl. Came to these from trying a few different kinds of tapewounds -- which were close-but-no-cigar for me on this bass. Needed just a bit more resistance and attack, without losing too much harmonic complexity and growl. Overall, the GHS flats do this really well.

GHS precision flats are still available as singles and build your own string set options.

I am restructuring the website but all singles will still be available. Some have moved already but all will be moving soon. But they should all be under their appropriate section.

Great! I was about to say that I only see standard 4 and 5 string sets with that link, but I tried clearing my cache and reloading the page and that brought the singles option up. Was just about to post that the DR singles selection seemed to have gone mostly away, too. Thinking I'd like to try a set of Fat Beams in 45 60 80 105. Is that do-able? I don't see it, even with the cache trick.

Re. the Fat Beams, I like a midrange-rich, balanced tone with clear, ringing harmonics (this is for my reverse-P/J). I don't sound much like Marcus, but have read enough good things about this string (folks seem to like them even more than Hi-Beams, particularly when discussing feel) to want to try it. Are the Fat Beams inherently mid-scooped, or do you think they'll work for what I want? Might have to give them a shot in any case ;), but I'm curious as to your opinion.

Thanks!

Sorry about that... I just noticed that they were hidden to VIP users. I updated the item so they will be visible while being signed in as a VIP. I am restructuring the products to show real time inventory... Unfortunately this is going to get rid of some "grouped" items like the 6-String Precision set which was made up of a 5-String set plus a High-C. Now only the 4 and 5 string sets are listed and the user will have to add singles as necessary...

As far as the Fat Beam singles they are listed here:

They are listed as individual strings and not as a "build your own string set" option. So you will just need to add each string individually which you can do here. Also when it comes to DR custom sets, if you are purchasing 3 or more I can get them put together for you from DR for the price of a standard 4-String set!

Ordered an MXR Bass Octave Deluxe and some Fodera single strings from Jason last week, got them coast to coast in a couple of days! Fantastic service!

Don't forget, Bass Strings Online carries a LOT more than strings. Pedals, amps, pickups, you name it!

Glad you got that pedal quickly! ENJOY IT!

Are you able to sell the La Bella RXs as singles? I play a 5 string with a high C so want a 0.030 plus a 0.045 - 0.100 set.

Yes. For RX strings only the low b and high c are available as singles... I have them all in stock. Please pm me and I can send you a link to purchase the single tomorrow from the office.

Hey, Jason,

When I started playing, my favorite strings were Ken Smith Slap Masters -- they ate my frets, though. Haven't used them in ages. I think I'd be more up for something less zingy (and easier on the frets) now. What are your thoughts on the Burners and Compressors vs. the Dr. Fat Beams and Sun Beams? Are the Smiths available as singles as well?

Thanks,
Mark

EDIT: Found the Smiths -- both Burners and Compressors -- as singles under "Single Strings" (singles didn't pop up for me when clicking on the Burners or Compressors label under Ken Smith Strings at the sidebar). Still curious as to your impression!

Burners are quite bright for NPS strings. They are going to be less zingy than the Stainless Steel rounds.

Compressors may be a step further away from what you are after though. They are more compressed sounding and midrange heavy. Don't have the high end brightness of either burners or stainless rounds.

DR Fat Beams are a step warmer and darker than the Burners. Sunbeams are not as bright as the burners.

They do look like they are Super Steps. Hard to say without seeing the ball end section that should have black silk on it if La Bella's.

Thank you!

EDIT: Went ahead and got the Burners (in addition to the heavier D and G strings of the GHS flats). Was set to try the Fat Beams initially, but the Burners will let me do 40 55 75 100 and I've been wanting to try a slightly lighter set on my PJ.

Currently looking for a string cleaner and of course the first place I'm looking at is Bassstringsonline. Anyone use any of the cleaners from the selection here? I was using Bass Brites and I liked them, but I want to try something new and easier/faster to apply. Currently thinking about the GHS Fast Fret (I use GHS strings - Pressure Wound) although I read more about them as a lubricant than a string cleaner. Any input would be much appreciated!

Another kudos for BSO;

I ordered a custom set of D'Addario EXP coated nickles on Thursday 9/4. It was early evening here in FL so that made it late afternoon in CA. Order shipped Friday and was in my hands by 3 pm (EST) Monday. Can't ask for any better than that with standard shipping! The whole experience was smooth and pleasant and of course I just love, love, love the sound of a fresh set of XL's. Everything about the company, the product, and the CS is all win/win for me. If I have my way all future string & accessory needs will be handled through BSO.

I do have a problem with BSO. I know, right? Jason sent me a bunch of stuff I didn't need, and probably shouldn't have.

Don't give me that look, Jason! Just because I order something doesn't mean you should give it to me...
Good post.

I sent him well over $100 recently and all he sent me was some stupid silver and copper wires covered with clear nylon.
