I have a question about tone

How can they play with such tone? Did they use a compressor? The sound is thick while still retains clarity (You can listen when Thaddeus played complex lines you can still hear every notes)
I am new to bass gear and I am tying hard to improve my tone now I tried a 15inches Haktes speakers last week and it is thick and clear but still lacks a little bit depth compare to them.
