My first bass project

I was looking at supplies for building a neck, and its honestly cheaper to just buy one, with all the tools I would need to build one. Not to mention, a well playing neck is probably a longshot, atleast on my first attempt. I was looking online for necks, and the cheapest I've seen is warmoth. Anyone buy a neck from them? What do you think about it? Anywhere else I could look.

I also do have a squier jazz bass that I could steal the neck off of, atleast temporarily. I might actually do that, because this is getting pricey really quick.

Greekorican; Like you, I have been dreaming about building my own bass, but I probably am starting with much more general wood working experience than you - still ...

One thing I did a while back was buy a "used" Carvin neck assembly off Ebay. This neck was a body-thru design for a 5 string and has a very traditional headstock shape completely undrilled (not like the p-bass shape obviously). The former owner had gotten as far as gluing some exotic wood body wings on it and then quit. The neck assembly alone cost $269 from the Carvin catalog and then there was the cost of the wood body wings. I ended up getting the whole thing for $122 in auction and have since cut off the body wings (due to the size and ugly shaping) making it once again a neck assembly only. It is currently waiting for me to build it. (I will harvest the wood from the body for other things!)

Perhaps you can go online and find a similar deal that would be more fitting for your P-bass build. I know I saved a ton of money by going this route! Good luck on your project.
