My First Bass!

That brand is quite well known in Korea for that particular model. (It's a Korean brand.)

They're very decent bass for the price.

Just wondering how you have gotten hands on it though, assuming that you're not a Korean person...

Well, I finally got my first bass!

Congratulations! Nice bass - far, far better than my first one. Count me among those recommending to take as good care of it as you possibly can. Decades from now, as you look over your stable of Fenders, EBMMs, Rickenbackers, maybe even Foderas and Alembics, you'll always still have a soft spot in your heart for that one.

Congrats on the new first bass. A couple of suggestions.

First, keep it. Don't sell it or trade it away. You may at some point (very likely) have more basses, some you consider better or "main players". In any case, keep this one. You'll thank me 30 years from now.

Second, don't modify it in any way that can't be reversed. This is not the bass to try your hand at refinishing. Pickup swapping is fine, but keep the originals.

Remember that this bass will be far more valuable to you than to anyone else. Start making great memories with it.
Great advice!!! I'm lucky enough to still have my original bass (the MiM Jazz in my avatar).

... and a lakland/Ernie-Ball inspired "TF" model that look rather interesting.

Soooo hi everybody, hope you remember me from the massive "Beginner Bass Recommendations?" thread??
Well, I finally got my first bass! (Two days ago, but I was too busy to properly make a thread)
Soooo....long story short, although I did keep hinting that I wanted to choose my own bass when the time came, my parents, who are obviously quite against me learning how to play this gorgeous instrument for some reason, decided to just let my bass teacher decide the model.
So....I got a Swing G-1 Millennium!

I initially could choose from black, arctic white, or sunburst, but everyone shut me down in the sunburst option, and I wanted white the most anyway.
The bass is from Swing guitars, and it's brand new. Swing guitars, BTW, is one of the most reputable Korean guitar companies out there. They have a lot of products, and a lot of them are quite affordable. They have an English site as well as a Korean one (Invalid Link Removed) so I recommend checking it out if you're interested!
Initally, I didn't really want a Korean bass (I wanted a Squier, the Mikey Way signature to be exact) but then again, I didn't have much of a choice. But that doesn't mean that I'm not happy about getting a bass!!!

basically, it's just a Jazz bass, arctic white with white pickguard, and rosewood neck. It came with a gig bag, guitar strap, cable(for the amp) and these things???

...yeah. I have no idea what these are supposed to be. I guess my teacher'll explain what it is to me later on. To be honest, since I've only borrowed basses, I don't quite know how to care for basses, let alone how to tune them. I had a violin in the past, and I've snapped strings from tuning it incorrectly. I think that's given me quite a scare, because I'm staying well away from the head for now. Anyway, I'm sure he'll teach me later on.
I really hope that this bass will change a lot of things for me. Although I love, love, love listening to music, I fail epically when it comes to making music. None of the instruments that I played ever worked out, and everyone knows that I'm a mediocre singer at best. But...the bass really has a different kind of mystery that I really like, and I hope that this will lead me into enjoying music more and more. :D

That's a super beautiful bass and I'm sure it will give you days, weeks, month, years of enjoyment............

Your parents may be against it now,, but once they here how good you sound I'm sure they'll change their minds, congratulations.....

Never sell your first bass. When you are older, you'll become nostalgic for it.

Tasty! Looks great! Just thinking... that Squier (Mikey Way) model may have been limited in tone options. This is an excellent choice. You have a lot of tones to create with a Jazz!

Sadly, I have to agree with Red. I briefly had a Mikey Way Mustang, it didn't work for me on my "FEEL" and "SOUND" criteria.

As comfortable as the neck was, and I mean "really comfy!", it was so heavy towards the back-end, it kept wanting to lift the neck skyward. Basically, it was the opposite of "neck dive", as if that particular body needed a long-scale neck for it. Maybe there are others that are more balanced, but Mustangs are kinda rare by me, so I have no basis with which to compare by.

On the "SOUND" front, it was just too one-dimensional for me and it's basic sound was just too plain to my ears. However, I must be honest and admit that all my basses have two pickups…either a J/J or a P/J configuration…so take my review with a grain o' salt.

Ladies and Gentlemen - The "SwingRay"?

That pun is horrible, loathsome, vile, base…

…and utterly brilliant! As a semi-professional stand-up comedian, I salute you, sir!

Congrats! That is a very interesting looking headstock! I love the color too!
Don't worry about changing anything at this point, all you gotta do right now is practice practice practice any enjoy the hell out of grooving! Everything else will come.
I've been gigging with unexpensive basses for years before I upgraded. Nothing wrong with that at all, non what so ever. Enjoy!

Beautiful looking bass, congratulations! Country of manufacture means almost nothing these days, S Korea, Indonesia, China are all making excellent instruments these days at price points to make everyone happy. I'm a USA vintage snob but I have a Indonesian Squier that is a amazing instrument, certainly the equal of USA stuff in my collection. I agree with if at all possible keep your first bass, you will be glad you did! So welcome to the low end now go out and rock that thing! Keep us posted on your progress.

I sometimes wonder why you don't see more white Js, they look great.

P.S. I'm with the "never sell your first bass" crowd. I still have mine, and it's worth its own weight in sentimental value.

Nice bass.. congrats..save those. Those are the allen wrenches you will need to adjust your intonation and truss rod. Don't worry about that yet but to explain it somewhat here are a few good videos to explain it..

Part 1

Part 2

Part 3

Part 4

so that's what they were for!
I'll make sure to keep them safe (and check out the videos ASAP) :P
