i have a p bass made completely from genuine fender parts. My friend told me that it is not a real p bass because it wasn't built from the factory. Even though all the parts were. Anyone else think parts fenders and frankenfenders are not legit fenders even though all the parts were made by fender smh

What makes a "real" P bass anyway? I have a total parts P bass - Warmoth body, All Parts neck, Gotoh Bridge, Lindy Fralin pup and Hipshot tuners. It's still a real P bass. Just wasn't built by Fender.
I don't know that you could legitimately advertise yours for sale as 100% original Fender P bass, In that regard it is a curious question.

As Tinindian states, the issue becomes when you sell it. Too many threads here about people taking Squiers or parts basses and putting counterfeit "Fender" stickers on them, not to mention the almost daily "is this bass authentic" threads.

My three suggestions:

1. Don't put a Fender sticker on a non-Fender neck ("licensed by Fender" is not Fender).
2. If you modded the bass in any way, in a sale, disclose what you did.
3. When in doubt, keep the original parts, so you can sell it stock (you'll probably get more money, even if the changes were improvements).

A lot of people say a lot of things. It doesn't mean that they know anything about what they're talking about.

Too true, happens on this board every day. :D

It's a P-bass, it's just not an factory original P-bass and should definitely be disclosed should you ever sell. You may have a body from 1962, but that doesn't mean you have a 1962 P, ya know?

If Fender didn't build that bass it isn't a Precision. What you have is a parts bass made from genuine Fender parts.

And yes, some spell-checking would have made the title and thread markedly less ironic.
