My friends a idiot

Hahaha he's a good friend. He would call me a idiot as well

Of course he would because his friends a idiot! A parts bass isn't a Fender. It's a FrankenFender no more a real P-bass than the Frankenstein monster was a real human! If you were honest you'd put a big sticker on the headstock that says "Homemade bass from Fender parts". It sure doesn't deserve anything that looks like a Fender Factory logo any more than putting a Fender logo on an SX P-bass is honest. And your friend probably won't tell you this, but I know plenty of guitar players who will, namely, that anyone who plays anything but a true FACTORY ASSEMBLED P-bass (with flats and tort, natch) is someone who is not serious about their music. So get rid of that Frankenstein bass and buy a real honest-to-God American Standard Fender P-bass hopefully paying full list price from some mom and pop storefront. Nobody who buys a bass (even a real Fender) from some big box discount outfit can be considered serious about their music. Think about it.

So do you want to end up like me playing Squier and SX? Do you wan't everyone saying you aren't serious about your music? Of course, I have a different viewpoint and I bought a bunch of SX logos from Rondo for the SX basses I refinished, and then put SX logos on my real factory Fenders! I thought that was a hoot! But then that is my less than serious sense of humor.

The hole is greater then the some of the part's.
don't you mean grater?

edit: ah .. beaten to the punch.

The grammar Nazi crowd had issues earlier in the sentence.

As a grammar Nazi I take umbrage with about 33% of everything I read on the Internet. I also feel that trivial use of the term 'Nazi', effectively equating a genocidal and deeply destructive ideology with the notion that language rules should be adhered to to avoid confusion and conflict, is somewhat distasteful.

Below a certain threshold of grammar quality you begin to lose the ability to convey your thoughts coherently. On the Internet this causes major problems, that could be avoided.

You have a very valid point. You also have an unnecessary comma in your last sentence.

Back in about 1971, when 10 speed bikes were becoming hot stuff in the US --- I couldn't afford one but I found a no-name japan import for $99 and, thinking I was clever, I cut out a

logo from white vinyl tape and put on either side of the top tube. It looked really sweet (everyone was so impressed!) and the bike was stolen within about two weeks. So I'm thinking that @bassbenj putting the SX logo on his factory Fenders is a good idea.

Honestly who cares. Parts basses are great. It is exactly the same thing as what you get from the factory minus some sweaty dude (or an assembly line of them) putting it together).

I use the same principal to deny all those 'Merica built truck owners their joy of owning american (especially if they have pissed me off). You know the type that are such asshats? I remind them that the truck was assembled in America (maybe), but every part in it is Asian. Pisses them right off.

Is this still a Jaguar? Is it still an E type? Is it worth more or less than a factory E type? Depends on the eye of the beholder. I wouldn't hesitate to customize an instrument I play - or mix/match parts to get what I want ... but I know that I have reduced the value when I go to sell it someday.

Exactly! No one has a problem helping another player out with proper technique, so what's wrong with helping out with grammar?
