i have a p bass made completely from genuine fender parts. My friend told me that it is not a real p bass because it wasn't built from the factory. Even though all the parts were. Anyone else think parts fenders and frankenfenders are not legit fenders even though all the parts were made by fender smh

If by "not a pbass" he means the title should be "friend's an idiot", then yes, he is correct.

Simple solution: contact Fender and see what they have to say.

so it is assembled from factory parts just not by a factory tech? no customization or using jazz parts or any other similar fender parts? if that's the case it is a fender p-bass. regardless if its from parts or not that is all they are doing in the factory. walking over to a bin of premade parts and assembling them. there is no vin number tying the bass to a build.

as far as all of the fenders I have played I would rather have one assembled by some kid in their moms basement with care and precision over the factory any day.

Well,... Assuming your bass is new enough; could you take it to an "Authorized Fender Repair Facility" and have work done under warranty? No? Then,.. Sorry; it's not a "Real" Fender ... but, for the record - I kind of feel the same way you do, but..

I have a squier vintage modified jazz body with a squier vm precision neck. I bought them separately and eventually they ended up together. If I ever sell it I'll advertise it as a squier vm bass, just like yours is a real fender.

I agree with your friend. No offense but a bass built from parts is not the same as one built by the people trained to do so.

At this point, I think P-Bass has to do with the type of pickup and a Fender is a Fender is it comes from the factory. IMHO.
