Actually, I'd feel silly rehearsing at concert level in a space that is a fraction of the size of the concert space.
1) Ask your guitarist to roll off some lows and turn down the volume.
2) Seeing as (1) is unlikely to work, crank the **** out of your amp and mids (but you've likely done this step already as you are a TBer)
3) 4x10 cab or extension cab or something.
4) Sabotage the guitar players rig. Who knows, maybe the good ol' "where did I leave my beer... oops" could work.
5) Aliens.
But seriously, what guitarist needs a 4x12? That's absurd IMO. Now on the other hand, getting 4 8x10 ampeg cabs never hurt

i believe you misunderstood the point he was trying to make. obviously there are two sides to this argument and they are all opinion based. like to jam loud? jam loud. like to jam quiet? jam quiet. no reason to get catty....then again this is talkbass where people like to represent opinions as facts.
Do you understand concepts like wave propagation in a small room, or do you only play outdoor arenas and football stadiums?
I take it a step further. In electric music, the amp is an instrument in and of itself. There are more and less skillful ways of employing an amp. Diming the amp = almost always less skillful. YMMV.
when it comes to music i tend to take science out of it from this perspective. if it sounds good to my ears, and my bandmates, i roll with it. one thing i do agree with is that this should be a band decision on volume. we like to play loud. we like to protect our hearing. we are all happy with the sound.

hey everone has opinions and a right to them. lots of different ones on this thread which is great.
Except that this thread isn't about a band that wants to play loud. It is about someone seeking a solution to the problem of playing loud.
That isn't an opinion, it is a fact. Just like standing waves, reflections and cancellations in a small room that make it impossible for everyone to hear the same thing, resulting in an awful blend of white noise and echo that causes mental fatigue and makes you feel like someone punched you in the face after practice.
We get that you like to play loud, and that you think everyone else should too. That isn't advice though, that's just, like, your opinion, man
