Yeah - the primary intent of a gun is to fire a projectile at a target, this target can be a can, paper an animal, a person - it's the wielder of the gun that chooses a target!


Now the primary intent of a baseball bat is to stricke a ball real hard. However it's secondary use could easily kill someone! Doesn't it bother you that this perfectly harmless piece of wood can be turned into a killer in the wrong hands......


Oh wait, isn't this debate pretty much about the wrong type of person with the wrong type of implement????


I don't own any guns (I have a .22 air rifle for pest control). In Britiain, handguns are banned. Doesn't stop people getting shot though!

Caracas didn't grow up the way I did, and I can respect that.

I grew up on a farm... family doesn't have alotta money. So... that said, we grow vegies in the garden and we raise animals to eat. Just the way it is. We just don't wanna pay someone else to do the same (plus chop 'em up and add a bunch of crap we DON'T want)
Hunting is the bonus. We don't pay to raise the animals. They take care of themselves until harvested.
WE TAKE ONLY WHAT WE NEED AND WASTE NONE OF IT.

Now, I realize that this isn't a hunting thread, and I'm not looking to derail it, but....

Due to the way I was raised, I enjoy and RESPECT guns. I do NOT respect people who cannot handle the responsibility involved in owning/handling them. These people are the ones who give the responsible owners a bad name... and unfortunately, we're becoming outnumbered.

Ok, sorry about the rant.. I'm sure I'll get some heat for this, but I couldn't let the few of us who know the truth go unrepresented.

Oh, at last count.. I believe my immediate family had 75(?) guns Locked up and/or hidden throughout the house. I own 8 of my own, my personal favorite being my Taurus .454 Casull... and yes, I hunt with it.
Last note: We also reload 90% of all our ammo, with the exception of shotshells... they're too cheap to be worthwhile for us.

Just think twice before accusing someone of being a killer by owning a gun. Likewise, think thrice before trusting that ANYONE (aquaintences included) truly respects the weapon he wields, until he's proven it by acting responsibly and endangering no one.

That has to be the perfect post on this subject. Pretty much sums up my life experience and views, as well. I was brought up around guns and hunting, in rural New York, and was taught gun safety by my family for as long as I can rember.
I guess that part of the problem is the media - who tend only to portray firearms being missused. That is the only contact that many people have with them, thus assume that everyone who has a gun is either a cop or a criminal.

to the German who posted...I have two words for you....Adolf Hitler...never used a gun but managed to kill 6,000,000+ people....BTW GERMANY LOST WWII!!!!by the AMERICAN GUN,if it were'nt for the USA we would all be speaking German today!!! and Germany started it!!..trying to impose their way of life on the rest of the world,and KILLING all undesireable races and religions...why does a simple discussion about something some people like, have to turn into a political cold war...if you don't like guns or hunting...MOVE ON!!!!!! there are a lot of other topics here...find one you like and have fun,but don't bash something because YOU don't like it

I have yet to see any argument such as this do anything but harm for the cause that he's trying to support.
It's just immaturity and ignorance and will get you nowhere.

Nope, but I live with my wife's 2 teenaged daughters. I have a sawed-off 12-guage Ithaca for home defense (should it be needed) and more specifically, for cleaning when the horndogs come to pick the girls up for dates.

BTW, it's "obsessed".

well when someone starts badmouthin me or AMERICANS because a few of us like guns and\or hunting or other shooting sports or just collecting guns, and they have no idea what their talking about when it comes to an American way of life..like a few said here already about responsibility and respect..I was taught the same lessons....and people make comments about something they know nothing about...and it pisses me off...Mike A...your right,that was a thoughtless and immature thing to say...but the arguement goes both ways...there is a lot of ignorance on the other side of the arguement as well..to the German poster I appoligize for the rude comments,..Josh Walsh,I may not know to spell censor,but if you write it on a piece of paper...I could shoot it from a 1000 yrds. away :D

Yes I own guns, no I'm not fascinated by them. As someone stated earlier, they are a tool. I use them on my ancesteral land in central Texas. When I'm out free-roaming or working I usually have my .40 Smith and Wesson on my belt as family members have been charged by wild boars multiple times (Lord knows there's too many of them) and there are other animals that could be a threat (my cousin spotted a rabid coyote that he was unable to dispose of over Thanksgiving), not to mention trespassers that have been spotted in the past including known criminals. It's really not a dangerous place usually but as you can see it's not a bad idea to have a tool to do a job if need be. My only other gun is a 12 gauge which I sometimes use to add fowl and pork to the dinner table.

A side note - Whoever went off on Americans about owning so many guns: At the time you posted I don't believe there were really any American posts about guns up yet. The guy with the BB guns was from Indonesia and the guy whose friends apparently supply the Israeli army with weapons is from - well Israel. So were you just waiting for your opportunity to "go off" on us or what?

EDIT Ok I just went back and looked and there was one American who listed his guns. 1 out of 3 people doing so up until then...why go off on us?

Lets not forget the 4 million Russians who died and the incredible fight the British put up against the Germans. And also don't forget we came very late to the party.

I am not from USA, instead I'm from Indonesia, and most of you've probably heard about the recent tragedy of terrorists activities in my country....BALI bombing, shootings etc; and guess what, guns are also outlawed here! And the point of this thread is to simply share with people who like guns. The ones I have is not even real and its simply because I know the lethality of guns and that's why I CHOOSE not to own any...why? Because i dont want the responsibility of owning a firearm. Don't get me wrong, I still enjoy shooting in ranges etc. So what?? I LOVE THE WAY THEY LOOK!! I love the design, I love the workmanship, I love many things about guns. This will be a never ending argument. Someone is going to sarcastically comment about how I would love the way it kill people too.......of course not!

Well, before anyone who hates guns comment anything, why don't you guys do a simple research on the net about what people do with guns etc. Lots of em have never been intended for killing, it is literally being designed for sports. Of course you guys can disagree.

First of all, I ended up choosing to buy these Japanese made airsoft toygun(BB) is simply because it looked authentic. That way, I can enjoy everything about the guns I love, but I don't have to bare the responsibilty of owning a real one. I've shot numerous firearms, and after shooting em, I have learned to respect them! Guns do not kill people, it is IDIOT with guns that kill people.

C'mon guys, if anyone hates firearms, then I would sincerely, humbly ask (not force)those people not to participate. Cause nobody force you to join this thread in the first place. You are welcome to ignore this thread.....I think I made the title clear enough for people to distinguish.

sorry, man...that ain't entirely true...look up einsatzgroupen in your spare time some day...and saying "to the german that posted" just ain't cool at all. let me give you something to get you off of your high horse...look up SS St. Louis...and check out what happened with the Wagner-Rogers Bill. before saying something like that, you need to have the facts straight.

Yup! I know:) BTW your collections are cool!! I have a friend who owns racks of hunting rifle, S&W 9mm tactical, old german 9mm luger, and many other old WW2 handguns. I go to shooting range to shoot em with him once in a while. Someone here own a bushmaster M4, COOL!
