My HORRIBLE Alleva-Coppolo experience...

If AC is screwing someone over for $5k with a bass this shoddy, he has cash flow problems, IMHO. Definitely appears he's putting the loot in front of the reputation.

(All speculation of course, maybe he just builds garbage now.)

I had hoped I'd never read a thread such as this on TB. From beginning to it's (eventual) end - the purpose of the OP's post has been a study in distortion. Yet, this should have never been allowed to happen. There will be consequences from this to deal with...and that's all I have to say about that.

I preferred the previous threats....
This was the OP's legitimate narrative,
I hope the consequence will be that mr. Coppolo at least address the matter directly as Ken Smith have done from time to time when people here have had problem and gripes. I don't think he apologized for anything but he had the respect to comment on the matter, as bluntly as is his style.

Wow unbelievable. I always though that AC basses and customer services were on the same level as many other top notch luthier. It is hard to believe that AC put this bass on sale, he charge thousands of USD for his labor so perfection and attention to detail is expected.

Jimmy already know about this thread so I hope he will contact the OP today with an offer, either a full refund or accept the bass back, fix all the issues and give a world class bass to the OP.

I don't necessarily expect mr.Coppolo to agree, but at to least give a plausible explanation or his reputation will be justly harmed. And i believe his reputation on TB is a lot of his reputation.

The idea that that a reputable luthier would allow this out of his shop is disturbing but mistakes can happen and he can be forgiven for that if he makes it right for the customer.
But for me, the most appalling thing is his action after the sale...absolutely no excuse...none.
It is commendable when someone, on their own, makes things right for a customer as it is the right thing to do from both a moral and business side. I WANT to do business with them.
When someone makes that decision only when they are forced to do so...I suspect that they will try to do it again if they think they can get away with it
AC should make this right today
I would not describe this as a drop in the bucket....rather it is a hole in AC's bucket that needs to be fixed right away....and no matter what they do....thanks to how they initially handled the mess THEY (not the OP) created, the leak will not be completely sealed...this will affect them for some time...
Ps: as per prior post...this looks alot like Doug P's bass and not a new bass... How many lefty basses could a small builder make that look exactly the same? Was this actually a new bass?

Come on. The OP has been very reasonable and level headed in this thread (even though some others haven't). He seems to have tried in various ways to deal with the situation privately (hence the pdf of emails - has anyone requested those?) and feels like he has no choice but to go public. The OP has done nothing wrong as far as I know.

Others have done so in the past with various bass/cab/pedal builders and honestly, I think it's a good thing. Yes, we should all remember that these are isolated incidents and don't necessarily represent a business as a whole, but it helps give the customer power when screwed. This is a good thing. AC has the ability to diffuse this situation by publicly doing the right thing (yes, publicly since this thread has now tainted many people's opinions) and showing what good customer service is all about.

If you are thinking about sending an email to Jimmy on my behalf, PLEASE DO NOT.

I understand that you think it might help me and I honestly do appreciate it, but I would simply rather you didn't.

If there were threats made of any kind, even if they were in jest, it's simply unacceptable and I DO NOT condone it, approve it, or want it to happen in any way, shape or form.

It's deplorable and I do not want to be associated with it. Period.

Ugh...

If you were the OP would you want anything besides a full refund at this point? To get another AC is going to be like the "bad taste still in my mouth" thing and in addition screw someone waiting for their bass considering there is a wait on builds. I would take my money and the apology and head elsewhere. There are definitely no winners at all in this case..and speaking of cases- gig bag for a 5k bass?? Really??

There was no threat intended or implied.

Your response is indicative of the bad grammar and poorly conceived thought proccess so prevalent in this thread.

+1

I'm sorry this thread got a bit ugly, but you did the right thing posting in the first place. Those who want to act like children - cool your jets.

You might want to add this as an edit on the OP.

After reading (again) my post - NO blame or accusations were aimed at the OP. His post does give fodder to those who would distort and twist the matter to their own use or agenda. NO threat was leveled at AC. The fallout, however, may have ramifications for AC and other small builders.

OP - was just thinking, you may want to hold onto the bass until you get some resolution. With it in you possession you can verify condition, when it is in someone else's possession they can claim that you damaged the bass further and didn't show that in the pictures and now want a refund for a bass that you busted. It hopefully won't get that ugly but it's better to CYA.

When you say the purpose of the OP was to distort, that sounds to me like you're clearly trying to make it seem like he was simply making trouble. I don't agree with you, but you are clearly free to think what you want. As far as having ramifications for small luthiers, OF COURSE it should! That's the point. It's simply not right that this happened, especially at this price point.

Anyway, going in circles and all that. Whatever dude.

The OP seems to be making a well documented case for his position in this matter. He's made no threats, and no distortions are obvious from his posts. He's done a pretty admirable job in documenting his issues.

Now, you claim there are distortions. To make this claim, you certainly received some information other than what's been presented, or spoken to the other parties involved. Please present your information, so that we can validate your claims.
