My new Nordy

Adrian,

my nephew had some kind of an Immune disease (can't remember the exact name) and I went with him to the kids oncologic department at a local hospital.
as a soldier I saw lots of hard stuff but always kept my composure, but after seeing kids (even small babies) with this awful disease my heart was broken into pieces.
My nephew is healthy today, but I took an oath that once I'll finish college I will contribute every extra cent I'll have to the Children's Hospital.

I truly hope you will win this battle, and I wish you all the best.

Carey did an amazing Job...I can't say anything but : Wow !!
never saw anything like it.

Thanks for the beautiful words to every one. Please be aware, it was Carey who built this bass. The idea originated at a Sushi Bar, born of us both, but he crafted this gorgeous piece. So beautiful the Lord might just take it with me? THAT would be quite the endorsement. I Intend to play if for a bit, long as I can, but it really is for the kids from Carey "kinda through me" Since I am representing what we are fighting here.
It is about the kids. Once I saw them suffering, it was over for me. I felt blessed to have been given so much more time than them. Here's to praying for miracles every day.
ps- just 2 days ago, i came THIS close to being killed in a car accident. Guy was headed for my passenger door and neither saw each other til the last second- all I can say is I felt "plucked from there" just shoved to the side where there was no impact or accident, praise God.
Do I feel like He saved my life? You better believe it.
So then one wonders what He wants me here for . But i thank Him constantly.

Adrian, I think it's an incredible thing you're doing, and you have such an amazing outlook and disposition about your situation. I can't say I would be as strong as you are.

Carey's built you an incredible instrument and it is VERY close to what I would spec in a Nordy given the chance. I'm sure that whomever would bid on it will follow your lead and be extremely generous to the kids who are the benefactors of you generosity.

My wife and I donate to St. Judes every month (direct withdrawal from our checking). You've inspired me to kick in extra for the kids this year.

Keep the faith.

I will also be writing a check to St. Jude's this week, based on this thread and Adrian's post.

Edit: Already done... the St. Jude's site has a very nice 'donations' page and they accept credit cards.

Couldn't have said it better.

I have the utmost respect for great people like you that still find the time and put in the effort to really help others for completely unselfish reasons. Pretty rare in this day and age. Many others would say "why me" and do nothing except be miserable.

Thanks for putting all of the crap many of us post about new basses, GAS, etc. in perspective.:)

Ken, I have to say, I have never agreed with one of your posts more! :D

Again, I have to say the act of kindness MUST shared with Carey who has in fact done way more to make this happen than I. We put a year limit on it so we don't have to feel so morbid about it. As Carey said, if it meant I lived, he would build another one in a second. THAT is amazing. We have to see about the correct way to to this- legally , and get the most $ for the kids. Thinking about going BIG if we have to. I want the most $ to go to the kids, so I will try to reach Lance Armstrong if I have to. The more visible the better. We don't wanna just get good $ for the bass, we want to touch a millionaire's heart and have him write those kids as BIG and FAT a check as this bass's tone. And believe me, Carey and I would make sure 100% went to where it is needed.
Hard to keep up on this thread and a dry keyboard- please know, guys, if you are touched by this you can make small contributions to St Jude's Children Cancer Hospital

I started with $40 monthly, but even $20 monthly will help them immensely.
The thing is, guys ( and ladies ) that this place DOES NOT TURN AWAY NOR REFUSE TREATMENT TO ANYONE REGARDLESS OF WHAT INSURANCE COVERS OR NOT- NO ONE IS REFUSED TREATMENT WETHER YOU CAN PAY OR NOT,
I find this amazing, having an idea what cancer treatment costs. ( I am blessed there as well ) So I could not think of a better place to help. But as long as it goes to children with cancer, we just want to get the most $ to where it is most needed.
I sure hope I last and have to get Carey to build that other bass! I'm not going to lie to you! I wanna keep ticking... God decides. Besides, I gotta get past 50 at the end of March. Never thought I would make it but it looks like I may and that to me, will be a miracle in itself.
Love you guys for your kind thoughts. God bless you ALL.

Wow, Adrian, that is incredible (or is it?)! God certainly has plans for you, and he's not done with you yet, eh? Not by a long shot! Your fight and many victories over your cancer are certainly inspiring in and of themselves, but you do seem to keep taking it to the next level. :) Your/Carey's auction is a wonderful notion, and I will certainly follow it very closely (though I am hopeful that I am outbid by many tens of thousands of Dollars :smug:).

Now, I'm off to donate to those kids (thanks for the link)! :cool:

This bass is designed to go with "Purity", my trans white Nordy which is getting some updates @ the shop right now. This bass will be named "Charity"- the reason for this is there is a very special purpose for this bass. I'll be blunt and to the point about it. I am fighting metastatic cancer, have been for 2 years ( and longer that I did not know I had it )
So I have developed a special animosity towards this dreadful disease.
We are going to auction this bass ( through the right channels once we find them ) so that the money goes to St Jude's Children's Cancer Hospital. I find few things sadder than the image of a child, no hair, suffering, yet somehow smiling through their ordeal.
I have been blessed with almost 50 years of a very interesting life. In a year, or whenever I get called home by the Lord, whichever comes first, This bass will hopefully be auctioned to the highest bidder for the kids.
I have played charity auction gigs where people have payed 30k for a football helmet, so this amazing work of art should help the kids a bit, we pray...
In the meanwhile, I will try to do it some justice by actually playing it on my gigs as long as God allows.
This is indeed for many reasons, the most special bass I have ever owned. Sounds and plays amazingly. Here are the specs:

Ash Body ( with a subtle flame that is hard to catch on camera but is beautiful)
A very elegant Camphor Burl Top
Maple and I mean MAPLE neck- lots of flame which I will have to photograph when the sun is better.
Birdseye Maple Fingerboard. Speechless.
Camphor Burl blocks and binding, just too cool.
Hipshot Style A bridge and tuners
Clear ( slight blueish tint ) pickguard
Nordstrand Big Singles Pickups in the 70's positions
Audere JZ3 Preamp with passive tone rolloff

This has to be the most heart-wrenching review I've ever read! Adrian - thanks for all you've done for our bass community, and all you're doing to help the children who are suffering from this terrible disease. Keep writing, fighting and playing, man!

Adrian, thank you for demonstrating such amazing, incredible humility, kindness and compassion. The spirit of your heart and Carey's gives me pause to reflect on how easily I take the blessing of my health for granted. I get wrapped around the axle over such small things which now seem so trivial by comparison. Thanks for the wake up call.

Count me in to contact St. Judes for a donation long before your Father calls you home.

I would rather share what I can now on behalf of friends I so greatly respect and admire. (Adrian and Carey)

It is my prayer that your hearts are lifted by seeing the the fruits that are coming "now" as the result of your kindness, love and generosity.

It is my wish that peace fills your heart knowing that your love and caring has given many people insight and inspiration. You have certainly touched me and for that I will always be grateful. God bless my friend. Gary
