My New SX!

Replied :)

Well this is my first bass and all, but to me, it sounds nice. I raised the pups because they were a bit low, which seemed to get me some more output. From what I can tell, they are pretty quiet. Not a lot of buzz. I still need to set it up, though.

Get some new strings on her. I have that same bass (in lefty)...the stock strings don't sound bad, but they're really, really lacking in volume.

I did as well and like them so much that I just placed another order for 40. This is by far the best deal I've come across in a long time... 66¢ for a set of strings that will easily last for more than a couple of months worth of practice, rehearsals and gigs.

+1, I ordered 5 sets before and then ordered 5 more. They're actually pretty decent strings! I expected them to be terrible, it's really not the case. I use Rotos normally but these work fine for most things. I use them for my project basses for setups, or for giving away sometimes when I sell parts.

Hey gang, what strings are you talking about? I'm looking at Sam Ash online and not seeing anything like the deals you mention. Help a brotha out!

Inquiring minds want to know. :D I've heard of those strings, but I've not heard any feedback on them until now. If they are pretty good, I'd like to check into those myself. I could not find them on the SamAsh website either, FWIW.

oops! Don't get into the "roundwound vs flatwound" struggle here lol. Lots of differing opinions on this site.....but there good ones with lots of good info. Love your bass, and good luck!!

They are currently out of stock, but they should get more soon enough. It says $2 per set, but when you actually add them to your cart it gets discounted a lot and its 60 something cents per set. You pay like $1.50 shipping on them now, it was actually free 2nd day shipping when I first ordered them. I guess they fixed that glitch in the system . Still quite a deal considering how ridiculously cheap that is and they aren't all that bad. I'd put them above the cheap Hartke strings I tried a couple years ago. I still shell out 18 bucks for Rotosounds on my main players when I need strings though.

The super cheap ones are only the light gauge (45-65-85-100). The medium ones are more expensive but still really cheap in comparison to most strings.

Sweet! Thanks a lot - I'll be giving those a try when they get more in stock. I am quite familiar with the Hartke's - I like them & use them for daily use, etc. I'll have to do an A/B recording & see which I prefer or if it's too close to even matter. I usually go for a "name" brand when doing any recorded work in the studio. Thanks again for the link. :)

Not a problem. If they take too long to get back in stock I'll send you a set, I still have about 10 left I think. I was really surprised when I tried them.

In case anybody wants to try some cheap bass strings, Samash.com has them back in stock.

I use them on my practice basses now. 10 sets for $6.60 total + $2 or so for shipping. They really aren't half bad.

I just ordered 5 sets to try out. Grand total w/shipping = $5.25 Unbelievable! Thanks for turning me on to these strings - I'm definitely looking forward to trying them out.

That's a very kind offer, but just last night I ordered a 3-pack of Hartkes & I'm sitting on a couple single sets at the moment. I should be good, but I appreciate the offer. :)

I was a big fan of the Hartke strings as well and really prefer sizes 45-105 but this Sam Ash deal can't be beat although they're 45-100. No big deal... a little tweaking on the E string and it's all good. To think... I have +50 sets of strings left. I think I'm good for the rest of the year.;)

BTW, I tried to figure out why they are marked at ultra-extreme-clearance prices and I think it's a matter of an error in packaging. The E-A-D-G strings are put in sleeves marked D-G-B-E respectively. Thankfully I know what string goes where.

Stuff, I love your sound clips. Sounds like a good bass, with decent tones.

But I couldnt quit laughing at the timing! It was perfect, but much slower. Its what I expect those songs would sound like when pulling a Doobie Brothers! In a Cheech and Chong sense.. :D
