Congratulations in getting your new Upton Concert Bass.
You must be in awe. It's beautiful and the sound clip
reveals it's classic sound. I would bet that you just can't
stop playing it for more that a few minutes.
Thank you. Indeed, my practice time seems to fly by!
After reading the posts here at TalkBass for a long time
I purchased an UB and have had it now for about 10 months.
I will say it is better than I hoped for and has only gotten better.
Thanks for confidently speaking out about the Upton Basses here at TB. It certainly helped me.
You're quite welcome and thanks for mentioning that!
I have a "left-handed" USA made Upton Hybrid Hi-C 5'er.
It's just what I wanted and could not be happier for the money spent.
It definitely sounds and plays better than some basses I've played that cost a lot more money.
Knowing that you've had other DB's.
How do you feel about the money spent?
For my 1st DB I wasn't sure about the "Flagship Model".
If I felt the way I do now about there basses I would have
gotten the fully carved model.
I've Got a good teacher and can't believe the difference a year
can make. I'm sure you will now raise to a new level of playing
and enjoyment.

I, like you, have found the bass to be far more than would be typically expected for its price. Yes, I've had other basses and over the decades have certainly had an opportunity to play quite a few. This bass rivals (and, in many cases, beats) many of the basses that I have played that cost far, far more. I suppose some people will wonder how that can be. Here's my take on it. Obviously, Upton does not build only 2-3 basses a year. They have managed to take a solid design and somehow figured out how to increase production efficiency of these hand-made instruments without sacrificing quality. I'm no luthier-- how they do it is their domain-- not mine. I do know that I have never played a bass at this price point that even came close. The proof is definitely in the pudding. I don't really care how they do it!
