My preamp journey

Haha, I like how you sing nothing but praise in your whole comment and then, in the last sentence you mention that you're selling that pedal again.
I can totally relate, having done the same on a slightly smaller scale - but it's still funny.
yeah man, these things kill me. It's such a nice pedal - killer tone, I just wish it were more portable. Seeing the LeBass and the DSM right next to each other, and it's pretty apparent. The DSM is less than half the size.

10 years ago when I was carting around 4x10 stacks, tube amps, and racks full of gear I would have laughed at the notion that anything except tone was important. Now, tone is still important, but I need to be able to walk to gigs lol. How things change!

10 years ago I would have laughed at the notion - today it's even funnier :-)

Yeah, but you also bought yourself through the crème de la crème of preamp pedals and when one does, there will be great pedals finding themselves out of pedalboard space because the valuable real estate is taken up by the ones that are slightly better. . .

This is also why I ended up with 4 pedal boards instead of the two that I originally planned ...

Two out of four boards done, just waiting for a DSM Micro Pro that USPS lost to show up for the 3rd.

The 4th is waiting for a few things (envelope filter pedal and Boss SY-200), and I'm still trying to figure out a good analog speaker sim for it.

And I can honestly say that I was preamp GAS free until a Hudson Broadcast BC-24 showed up in the classifieds ...

Analog Cab sim?
Ever thought about simply using HPF and LPF and call it a day?
So, I may actually go back to HPF/LPF - long story short, I live directly across the street from a couple of massive sources of radio waves/EMI - including a broadcast tower for a local radio station and some very, very big lights and a pump station. My gear always buzzes (60hz) at least a little and I often pick up radio stations.

Since I've been using more OD (high gain) pedals, the buzz has gotten intolerable. The fix? An HPF, set slightly above 60hz.

So now, I think I'm going to ditch the analog cab sim and pick up a few of the Broughton LPFs (I already have a couple of the HPFs). The LPFs rarely show up used. And silly me, I had an LPF/HPF combo but sold it when I got the speaker sim.

I'm also going to try the EHX Hum Debugger - I've heard good things.

Picked up a Barber Linden EQ in a trade - man, is this thing nice. Has me GASsing for a Sushibox Slampegg ... something with volume/gain and real tubes ... but man, the Linden is f'ing sweet!

It's been a few since I updated, but I decided that having four pedal boards was just ridiculous - even for me. I've consolidated down and put a bunch of stuff up for sale, but I'm still working on slimming down some things, especially around O/D, and planning on picking up a Boss SY-200 when they become generally available.

I'm almost there!

If I remember correctly, the Ictineo was recommended to me by @bassbrad . However, the Particle Accelerator was also recommended at the same time and you know what happens when you discover Sushi Boxes :)
Hahahaha yup, I *do* know. See moy comment about GASsing for a Slampegg, after already owning a PA, an SBVT, a Smoke Signal, a Dr. Watson, a Finally, and a Fluffy Kitten on the way ...

I definitely feel you.I have 5 boards locked and cocked.I look at them and ask myself "what's up with you?"And I'm not even gigging at the moment.I should be selling but no... I don't really use a ton of FX. I'm mainly into my many preamps. I just added the Darkglass Hyper Luminal compressor that I am utilizing big time.It is the first compressor that imo really added to my sound in a good and noticeable way.If I sold half of my pedals I could buy a nice bass, but I own 31 already.I guess there's no hope for a guy like me. Oh, I almost forgot, I just pulled the trigger on the ME Super 800 with the 400 on my short list.

You are like my bass brother from another mother. Same thing here - love preamps, and lately I've been picking up dirt pedals, which are kind of like preamps ... I've made an arbitrary rule that if it's not on a board I'm selling it, but it's difficult to make up my mind with so much great stuff out there. And yeah, still waiting on the Super 400 that I ordered, if USPS every gets their act together.

And funny enough, my current bass count is 31 as well!
