My preamp journey

The RFE is cool AF. Reminds me somewhat of the EQ on my Alembic.
Hey there, so you have a DXC on the way?
That's an inviting entry that's caught my eye.Your take on it will be interesting.Thing is that I already own both Bass Rigs, plus a Hudson Broadcast, which may be similar to the DXC, ya'think? BTW, I've been very keen on the Revelation Effects "Revenant" preamp-boost .Have you heard it? That YouTuber, Patrick Hunter's claiming it's his pedal of the year for whatever that's worth. But I must say it sounds great in his video.I have recently gotten a couple of very different dirt pedals; Idiot Box Blower Box and also Ftelectronica Substance O.D. I'm digging both.Have fun!

Okay so I'm really digging the DCX. It's definitely a tone sweetener, and sweet it is. The drive is really nice, and it's very touch sensitive - clean when playing normally but breaks up very nicely when digging in.

It reminds me a lot of the Free The Tone Bass Blaster in a way, but with a different kind of tone sweetener and slightly less responsive tone controls. I'm rethinking my boards right now, and I think the FTT and the DCX are in competition for a space

I got home from Vegas and immediately got sick and stuck at home. Invariably, that means I'm going to spend time overthinking my pedals.

I've always been very conscious of using the pedals that I have. With a few exceptions, I like them to be on boards and in use.

Plus, I went through a little dirt shoot out.

So, I have some extra pedals I'll be posting up for sale. Not gonna lie, I'm going to be a little sad to see some of these go :(

Glad you are digging the DXC. I have never heard it in person but I've never doubted it being a great one.I've pretty much got the Ampeg SVT- B-15 tone stack covered however.I have the Origin Super Vintage plus the ME Super 300,plus the very nice Shiftline Flex. And the Two Notes Le Bass can do the dance. But when has an over abundance of preamps ever stopped guys like us from upping the ante? To prove the point I have recently received the Revelation Effects Revenant, which is creamy smooth for lack of better description.I'm loving it.Also I got the hots for ME Effects SF-72 to get a taste of old school Peavey action in the house.Hondo's YouTube demo sold me on it so maybe check it out,or don't.At your own risk as you are aware.Like we've all said too many times, it never ends. The DCX is really among the most touch sensitive pedals I ever touched - if not #1.

Have you tried the Hamstead Subspace?

If you are looking for a rig that takes preamps well, check out GR Bass. Their amp heads have a "neutral" switch, which bypasses the EQ section of the preamp, making things sound very flat. They are very lightweight as well.

I just got a pair og the GR AT210V cabs - they sound great paired with that head, and the rig is an all around excellent platform for those of us that love preamps!

I haven't posted here much lately ... I've been doing some travel and also TBH I've been very happy with my boards and my tone. I've done some messing around though, and was swapping out the Alix for the JHS Colourbox and for the life of me I couldn't get a good tone out of the JHS - ir was constantly overdriving, even at the lowest setting. I must have messed with it for an hour. Then I saw this.

El Jefe,
as a fellow pedal gourmand, have you ever looked at the Niche Humboldt ?

It looks so much like a magic tone device that I'd like to try one and my appetite for magic tone devices is basically completely done.
I haven't seen that particular one yet, but I do know that Humboldt makes really, really good stuff. I'm gonna have to check it out :-)
