My response to "I don't get effects?!?"

^Exactly. Use 'em or don't use 'em. There are those whose perspective might be a lot better if they'd just get off their high horse.

It doesn't just happen here...a few months ago, I asked (in the tabs threads) if anyone had a particular tab/notation/something, and someone took two paragraphs to tell me that I should try to sound it out myself and how it's make me a better player, whiten my teeth, and solve world hunger....doesn't that fit the definition of 'trolling?'

I think it's more that inherent "internet bravery" that people get. You know, the "I can say whatever I want because you're nowhere near me and don't know who I am" thing. I try (and I'll admit, I'm not the best example) to keep anything I type on forums as close to what I'd tell you face to face.

That does sound like the definition of trolling.

To me, trolling is like someone coming into a triathalon forum and arguing that encouraging running is bad.

In the case of the original thread, there was a guy playing roots/Americana who claimed to want convincing as to why he should use effects. Wut? If your musical style is of a particular sound, great, but it just seems a little weird to not have a particular need, and yet to ask to be convinced that you do. It's like the Unibomber asking people to convince him to live in a place with running water and electricity.

I'm a little slow on the uptake, of course. I had taken the original poster of that thread at his word, and assumed he was just a bit mentally deficient and not very good at looking at things from the viewpoints of others, not that he was trolling. It also made me conclude that his wife is very patient (assuming he has one) with his difficulties, and that he lives in a sheltering environment.

I've known people who managed to live fairly normal lives in spite of being somewhere on the autism spectrum, and I guess it's my exposure to them that makes me assume the best of such posters and their intentions. Their inability to put themselves in the shoes of others is a handicap, and I imagine it really impedes their ability to engage in real-life social contact. That's why I assume there are so many people like that on the Internet.

yes it does. that's why i don't go to the tab forum. i'd probably have done the same thing, and i'd have told you to drop tabs and just use standard notation.

simple...i did not go to the tabs forum to reply. even tab users have a right to assemble peacefully. but had you posted that in gen instruction, i'd be all over you like flies on poop.

Too ****ing right. I know that if were were to even peek at the tab forum I'd have myself banned yesterday. Just don't go to forums that you're bound to start trouble in and everything is cool.

These types of threads are pointless because we all know that effects are merely crutches for our own ****** playing and even though this might be helpful for our sorry self-esteem but we all know we all just suck greasy pimple covered ass in the hardest of ways. And it is because of this that we most likely have deep anger issues which is why I think that any purist that posts in a FX forum against FX should have a Boss TU-2 shoved deep up their ass.
